These words are from social activist, author, and lecturer, Helen Keller who passed away 48 years ago today. Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama in 1880 and contracted a disease that left her deaf and blind at almost two years old. Keller, alongside her teacher, Anne Sullivan, are remembered for their many achievements for the blind and deaf community. To this day, Keller is noted to be one of the most remarkable and influential women of the 20th century. This document in our collection highlights Keller’s itinerary for a 1948 world tour.

Ads from the early twentieth century are always intriguing and these ads displaying war-time efforts don’t disappoint. From headlines like “Save the Thoughtless Dollars,””Spies and Lies,” and “Kill Every Rat,” you are bound to get sucked into these ads. If the headlines don’t drag you in, the beautifully drawn sketches of Red Cross nurses promoting donations will surely capture your attention.

Any twenty-something year old will remember their school teachers discussing “No Child Left Behind.” This act required all public schools receiving federal funding to administer a statewide standardized test annually to all students (which were the absolute WORST!) and was proposed by President George W.
