He looks at his hands under his failing lamp, and he knows they've changed overnight. He can't see it, but he knows there's blood there, invisible, creeping into his skin and staining his flesh, his bones. A blink, and it's back, that vision of him kneeling to something greater than God, voice hoarse with screams, heart beating with the conviction that he's doing this for the greater good. For Them. But who are They? He's dreamt of them for nights and nights, but he's never seemed to remember their faces. They have to be important, somehow. He knows it, the same way he knows he'll be the death of Them.

Four dreamers find friends from a story long gone. That story ended in tragedy, so isn't it inevitable that this one will fail too? But something has changed this time around—they remember. A flawed, blurry memory, but a memory still. And so they restart their tragedy, their memories their only weapon against their imminent endings. They tell themselves they'll win this time. They almost believe it.
