“The blades on this one are startin’ to move out of alignment. And the engine needs more crystals,” Utata confirmed, scribbling a note in her pocket tome before tapping her cheek with the end of the pencil. “Weren't we expecting a shipment of lightning crystals?”
“Not yet. Somebody was supposed to make arrangements this morning,” Stacia groused, wearing an expression that was reserved only for the captain's most exasperating moments.
“Ooohhh.” Utata dropped her voice and made it sound conspiratorial, grinning when the corners of Stacia's lips twitched in spite of her commitment to being irritated. “I wonder if they're back yet.”
As though on cue, the sound of footsteps clattered metallic above them, somewhere to their right, and their heads shot up in unison. Both knew that the nearest walkway connected to the captain's quarters, and both knew at once that they were thinking the same thing. Utata couldn't help but giggle. “The captain's really taken a liking to him, eh?” she said.
Stacia made an exaggerated face. “Liking might be an understatement.” Utata giggled again. The Redbills loved a good gossip, and most speculated on what the captain was up to with the champion of Eorzea, though one thing was clearer than crystal.
Over the past two moons, the Redbills had grown used to the sight of Moro'a's manacutter appearing through the clouds. His visits weren’t clockwork, but always he would return (sometimes with a Garlean marvel or two, much to Utata’s delight). Often, Leofard would take off in the Raimille without prior announcement, and Moro’a would follow after, headed for Navigator knows where.
“I can’t remember the last time the captain saw someone for this long,” Utata mused, scanning her checklist to see what was left to do for the airship. “How long do you reckon it’ll be before they’ve had their fun?”
“Hmm. I don’t know,” Stacia answered, looking contemplative as she inspected the airship’s hull. “To tell you the truth…” She shook her head. “Nevermind.”
“What, what?” Utata pouted. “Don’t just say somethin’ like that and not finish!”
