Guys, I spent nearly one hour to ceate my own Kingsman 2048 on usvsth3m, but now I can’t play it?! I will put a link here: my game

A couple of months ago I launched Poddle, a podcasting network for me and my friends. I built the website over a couple of evenings off, where I didn't want to do anything that required any level of real responsibility. I bought a Bootstrap theme, built some models in Django and got busy.

This evening I've just removed most of that, in favour of a much more stripped-down, simple design. As soon as you land on the homepage you get an idea of what the site is, and you can sample three of the latest shows. Scroll down and there's a little about who we are, and up top is a link to all the podcasts and a blog. And that's pretty much it.

Each podcast has its own style, and it's still very easy to get to a particular episode. Its simplicity was inspired by UsVsTh3m, a Tumblr-like site that feels very cool, geeky and independent, and not like the baby of a large publishing company (which it is).

I'd laboured under the delusion that Poddle could be the UK's podcasting community, with a place for reviews and opinion about the "industry" itself. But it needn't be any of those things, because really all I wanted to do was make noises with my friends, and give my friends a place to put their own noises. I love the idea that we can band together to help promote our own shows, and that if one of us catches a lucky break and has a spike in listenership, some of that might trickle down to other shows. That's what's important.

The site also welcomes two new podcasts: Lee Aplin's Things I Learned Today, and the monthly GeekyBit. Lee and I will also be returning to our weekly TV show, the Emberseed.

There will definitely be space for improvement, but I think in this new layout I've got a site that does the real content justice. It needs to do better at showing other podcasts, and maybe using tagging to link episodes together that you might enjoy (something that UsVsTh3m does pretty well), but now that things are simplified, that'll get a lot easier.

3. Penny Juice

THE CHILDREN AT KID KOLLEGE LOVE THE TASTE OF PENNY JUICE AND DRINK IT WITHOUT ENCOURAGEMENT FROM OUR TEACHERS.

I LIKE THE SUGAR DRINK IT IS NICE AND I LIKE COLOURS. I LIKE IT ALL. WHAT YEAR IS IT.

4. MIT Natural Language Processing

It looks innocent enough, and MIT surely know what they’re doing. But peer at the source code and you’ll find…

SHEER HORROR.

5. Goetz Theatre Shows & Showtimes

This is hideous, but we include it as a relative feast for your eyes after the previous four. We’d rather look at Goetz than goatse – but only just.

6. Fabric Land

This “classic”, a source of inspiration for Brian Butterfield, defies 21st century web design technology, clinging to flag GIFs, frame navigation and searing colours. Perhaps in another 20 years it’ll become a design classic, but will we want to live in such a future?

7. Arngren

Look at it, just look at it. As you’re coming to terms with the clutter, possibly after one of those dried frog pills the doctor prescribed “for your nerves”, you start scrolling around and realise it goes on for MILES in every direction.

8. Bath Magic

Clipart. A screaming stock photo woman. Some dirty plugholes. These are the portents of the webby apocalypse.

9. Ling’s Cars

Yes, it’s deliberately hideous; that just makes web designers even angrier. Still, at least they can feel relieved that they don’t work for Ling.

10. craigslist

Want to see if a designer is secretly Bruce Banner? Start rambling on about how craigslist, or any other “undesigned” site, has a “refreshingly simple” look. Just don’t blame us if they throw your car through a Tesco window.
