If you haven't payed attention to the news in the last week, this story out of McKinney, Texas has gotten quite a bit of traction and for good reason. After watching the clip, answer me this (@3:00 mark) - Since when, has it been okay, for an adult, let alone a male police officer, to treat a innocent citizen in this manner? A child? I’ve seen police officers treat ARMED criminals (who have just committed horrific crimes)with more respect, than this officer treated this young girl. I’d like to say race had nothing to do with the situation. In this ideal society, that would be the case. Unfortunately, we don't live in that society. It doesn't exist. (although a great portion of America seems to believe it does). Multiple witnesses from the scene shown above, have spoken out about the disparity of treatment this officer exhibited when dealing with blacks versus whites. I pose the question - had the individuals at this party, all been off European decent, would the force from this officer have been just as excessive? Would officer Eric Casebolt, have been as aggressive to the individuals rushing to the young girls aid as he threw her to the ground....had all parties involved looked more like him?
I’ll say it again, America, we have got to do better. We have a serious problem in this country when it comes to race. More specifically related to this post, how members of certain races are policed and treated in this country. First steps to fixing any of the socio & economic problems, race has spawned in this country is to admit there is a problem.
