Bakugo x (Quirkless)Reader Love in Pain Warnings: Slightly suggestive, swearing
Masterlist
Time to get things started! Starting off with my favorite firecracker!
_________________________________________
He hadnât meant to do it.
It had been one of those âwrong place wrong timeâ things. If it had been anyone else, he wouldnât have cared as much.
But it wasnât.
It was you.
It had started off as a normal day. You woke to your boyfriendâs slow and careful movements. He did this every morning. Trying to get out of bed to head to work without waking you up.
It was like a game between the two of you. He had always been an early riser, but you were determined to be there for him in the morning just like you were when he came home.
If you woke first, he could expect to be woken by the smell of breakfast wafting through the house, followed shortly by the soft pitter-patter of your ground zero slippers over the wood floors of your shared apartment as you make your way to the room, plate for him in hand.
âBabe. You shouldnât-â
âOh hush. I enjoy it, and I know you do to.â
On the flip side, if he woke before you, one of two things could be expected. If he had to head to work, he would try to carefully untangle himself from you to get ready, sneaking out before the sun had even begun to rise. Half the time he succeeded, half the time he didnât.
When he woke up before you on the days that he didnât work, he would stare at your face mere inches from his. He couldnât believe how lucky he had gotten. To have an angle such as yourself, all to himself. Then when the sun was just begging to rise, he would pepper kisses up and down your skin.
Starting with your hand and moving up your arm, across your chest and up your neck, all over your face, and finally, one particularly steamy yet sweet kiss on your lips.
Normally by this point you were awake, energized and ready to start the day.
This morning, as he placed his first foot on the freezing ground, he felt your warm arms wrap around his waist.
âHun. Stay please.â
Your voice was still full of sleep, still tired from last night.
He tilted his head to look back over his shoulder at you. His eyes traveled over your bare body, hardly covered by the blanket haphazardly thrown over the two of you last night.
His eyes noticed the goosebumps on your skin, and he made a mental note to grab the thicker blankets from the closet after he got home from work this evening. Winter was coming after all, so you would need more than the thinner blanket you had now to keep you warm.
Although, you would have much more preferred your space heater of a boyfriend over a couple more blankets.
Tightening your arms around him in an attempt to coax him back under the covers. He realized what you were doing and let out a little chuckle.
He carefully unwrapped your arms, causing you to give a little whine. You were quickly silenced as he leaned back over, giving you a gentle kiss on the forehead as he tucked the blankets around you.
âI have to go to work idiot. Who else is going to pay the bills.â
âHey, I have a job to you know.â
He ruffled your hair affectionately.
âI know. But that little support internship you have pays for your college.â
That was one of the conditions he had when you moved in with him.
You focused on your student loans and he would worry about the bills and groceries.
âOnly until you get a job at my agency. Then we can start to split the cost.â he had promised.
You had argued at first, not thinking it to be fair. But seeing as he wasnât going to budge on the subject, you agreed.
In return, you took on the roll of a diligent housewife. Well, partially. While you did the majority of the cleaning and cooking in the house, Bakugo chipping in when he could, you also attended a close by college.
You were born without a quirk, but it didnât stop you from wanting to help people. Even from a young age, you were fascinated with the equipment and costumes of both heroes and villains.Deciding that if you couldnât directly help people, you would help the people who helped them.
It was actually how you had met Bakugo. His agency had come to your college, looking for promising talent to work on new equipment for the new hires.
While you and Bakugo hadnât gotten along at first, him thinking you to be a weak quirkless nerd and you believing him to be a selfish prick that changed after a villain attack on your college.
Bakugo and you had been the only ones there. A late night fitting for a new set of grenade canons. A villain snuck into the facility, intending to take all the studentâs midterm projects.
You had just been returning from the fitting, a pair of grenade testers in your arms, when you saw him. Naturally he tried to kill you.
So what were you, a poor, defenseless, quirkless, college student supposed to do. Well, use any weapon at your disposal of course.
Bakugo was the first to respond, having just left the building when the explosion rocked the building. By the time he arrived he found you tying up the villain with a capture weapon that one of the other students had been working on.
He was floored. How had you used one of his grenade canons? Did you actually have a quirk? He had been fooled once by Deku and wasnât about to have the wool pulled over his eyes once again.
You explained to him, as well as the other heroes that showed up shortly after how you did it. The prototypes you had been carrying were created with the purpose of maximizing Bakugoâs explosive power.
It could take the smallest bit of sweat from him and turn it into a burst ten times stronger than what it originally would be able to do through a complex oxidation process.
He had been trying them on previously and the room had been ridiculously hot, resulting in the slightest bit of his sweat being collected.
The whole reason he had left was because he didnât want to blow up the whole campus by accident.
It was after this event that he began to see you as not some weak side character, but as someone who could help him climb to the number one hero spot.
You became his main maintenance, weapon, and costume designer. You were already offered a spot at the agency he worked at, though you fully intended on working with Katsuki when he got his own.
They still wanted you though, as that was a few years away and they wanted whatever work you could give them. As happy as you were that they saw the brilliance of your work, you also suspected that some choice words and threats from Bakugo himself also had something to do with it. He swore up and down that wasnât the case though, insisting it was your own genius that had gotten you the position.
That had been freshman year. You had just become acquaintances. That then turned into friends. Then best friends. You were introduced to his classmates and being around so many recognizable heroes was like a dream.
They all wanted you to make something for them.
âBakugo has told us so much about you and how amazing you are.â Kirishima gushed one night as you all gathered to catch up.
âYeah! Will you make something for me (F/n)-chan.ââ Kaminari had spoken up.
âOh! And me!â
âAnd me!â
You soon found yourself surrounded by the heroes. Throwing suggestions at you left and right. While you would have more than happy to make gadgets and gizmos a plenty for any of them, Bakugo pulled you out of the fray, holding you protectively behind him.
âDonât any of you bastards even think about it! Sheâs MINE!â
His words then had rocked you to the core.
He walked you home that night, claiming there had been a villain sighting around your neighborhood earlier that week.
âAre you specifically watching my neighborhood or something?â
Your teasing had sent him into a blushing, raving mess. After a few moments he quieted back down, leaving you standing in silence before your door.
âSo I guess Iâll just head in now. Goodnight-â
âGo out with me.â
His sudden proclamation had left you stunned. Of course you had agreed. You became official just before your junior year of college, and dated all throughout.
When you didnât know if you would be able to afford going next year, planning on building up some money before heading back, Bakugo had proposed the idea of you staying with him.
âItâs only natural that a boyfriend and girlfriend live together before they get married, right? To see if they can actually live with one another?â
That was Bakugoâs reasoning. How right he had been to suggest it. The first month you guys were together was, in short, a fucking nightmare.
He was a morning person, always going to bed at a reasonable time and rising before the sun, while you had adapted to being a night person thanks to a mixture of college and your hobbies. You would stay awake all night into the early hours of the morning working on new projects. As much as he licked coming home to you giving him a kiss when he walked in the door, he didnât like what it did to your health. You got after one another often about the sleep schedules.
After one time of both of you doing a continuous 48 hour work run, you sat down together and set out some rules.
Bakugo wasnât allowed out of bed before 6am, and wouldnât stay out past 1 am unless it was for the rare occasion for work or going out with friends.
You, in turn, would be in bed by 12, and out of bed by 7:30 unless you had a project with a deadline. Often when that happened, Bakugo would help you with whatever you needed. While the boy was incredibly smart for a muscle head, he wasnât exactly on your level.
And so you soon fell into a pattern, peace one against restored to your neighbors eardrums.
After Bakugo left that morning, you got out of bed 30 minutes later, unable to sleep without him by your side. You took your time getting ready for class, washing any dishes and rotating the laundry before getting dressed and heading to class for the day.
Class started at 9am and stretched until 5pm, giving you a small lunch break at noon. Bakugo would walk you to or from class, sometimes visiting for lunch if had the time. Today was not one of those days. Instead, you found Uraraka standing against the door to your classroom.
Even dressed in civilian clothes she was recognizable, but with all the heroes these students dealt with, only the freshman stopped to stare.
â(F/n)!â
She waved to get your attention. Jogging over to her, she hooked her arm through yours.
âCome on! I know a great place for lunch!â
The cafe where she took you to was a nice one, with small pastries to full meals.
âNot that Iâm complaining, but why are you here? Isnât today one of your days to work?â You waved the spoon from your finished parfait around before pointing it at her.
âWell actually yes, but I wanted to talk to you.â Pushing her plate away, you followed her lead as she folded her hands in her lap, taking on an uncharacteristically serious tone.
âItâs about Katsuki. Lately heâs been, well, how do I put this? Angry. More so than usual.â
You kept your face in a careful mask, thinking over her words as she watched you for any clues.
Now that you thought about it, she was right. You had just thought it to be work getting to him. Normally after a particularly *ahem* rough night session, you could help him blow off some steam.
âYes, Iâve noticed. Iâve been trying to help him calm down a bit lately as heâs seemed kind of tightly strung.â An understatement, if your back had anything to say about it.
âOkay, well, I just wanted to let you know. He can be kind of rough sometimes and your,â her words stopped short as she realized what she was about to say.
Quirkless. Weak. Defenseless.
All words that had followed you around your whole life, trying to drag you into the mud.
âItâs alright. I get it. Youâre just concerned and I appreciate it.â
The girls face lit up once again, happy that you werenât angry with her.
âIâm glad you understand.â
She stood up, dropping enough money to pay for both your meals. You wanted to protest, tired of the free handouts, but knew it would be in vain.
Damn heroes with all their money. But you were a college student. Any free food was appreciated food.
âI have to run, but donât hesitate to call! We should have a double date again sometime. You, Katsuki, Deku and I. It was so much fun last time!â
âYeah. Definitely.â
With a wave the girl was off, running towards what you know as the direction of the hero agency she worked at.
You couldnât focus the rest of class, trying to figure out the best way to help Katsuki unwind.
âI know! Iâll make him his favorite meal!â
Rushing home after class, you arriving around 5:30. You had two and a half hours before he normally got home. Perfect.
You prepared everything and left it to cook in the oven before rushing around the house, cleaning deeper than normal. You never planned to be a house spouse, but with all that Bakugo did, it was the least you could do to pick up the slack.
Turning on the news as you cleaned, the story caught your attention as a familiar explosive idiot jumped around the buildings. You paused, sitting on the couch as you watched.
There was your lovable idiot. Shooting of explosions left and right with that murderous smile. The same what that was somehow also very hot when it came to the bedroom.
âPro hero Ground Zero is currently taking on the horde of criminals recently escaped from Junipo police station.â she spoke into the microphone off screen as helicopter footage zoomed in. Despite knowing that he could handle himself, you couldnât help but feel your heart leap into your throat at the thought of him in danger.
You knew any wounds he got that werenât to sever would be treated by you tonight, and you made a mental note to pull out the first aid kit before he got home.
Injuries also often meant cuddle time as they âhelped with the painâ. Or so he claimed.
Your attention was once again drawn back to the screen as the grainy footage shifted to another form.
âThis just in! Pro hero Deku has also joined the fray!â Watching the screen intensely, the two heroes quickly rounded up the remaining targets. You didnât see the end as the smell of food wafted through the apartment, reminding you of dinner still in the oven.
Quickly you rushed to pull it out and set it on the stove and returned to the living room in hopes of seeing any interviews that Bakugo might do. They were far and few in between, but you never know with him.
By the time you got back, the news channel had already switched to the next story. You werenât too disappointed. You could always ask him about it when he got home. Boy did that man love to brag about his heroic acts to you.
It was an hour later when the slamming of the door alerted yo to the entrance of your explosive lover.
Going to greet him at the door like you always did, you found him placing his shoes by the door.
âWelcome home.â
You stood on your toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek, surprised by the lack of emotion when he gave you a hug in return.
You followed him through the living room into the bedroom where he began changing.
âWhatâs wrong?â
You knew there was something was wrong so there was no sense in asking that. Might as well get directly to the point.
He huffed, angerly pulling on a black shirt with cut off sleeves and grey sweatpants.
âFucking Deku! Always showing up and taking my thunder.â
Ah so thatâs what this was about. You had a suspicion that thatâs what it was bout. Even after high school the two had continued to be rivals, racing each other to the number one spot. Yo had just thought that they would be a little more mature about it now. Clearly you were wrong.
âDo you want me to have Uraraka talk to him.â
He followed his nose into the kitchen ignoring you.
âHey donât get grouchy with me. Iâm sure he didnât mean anything like you think he does. Heroâs are just supposed to-â
âEnough! Iâm done talking about it! I just want to eat and go to bed!â
âHey! Weâve talked about this! Itâs not good for you to suppress your feel-â
âI SAID SHUT THE FUCK UP!â
He spun around on you, slammed his hand into the wall next to him as he went, intending to just make you back down and let out a little anger with his explosion. He couldnât have been further off.
Weather he didnât realize exactly how close you were, or if his anger had caused him to miss judge the distance you didnât know. All you knew was that it hurt.
His palm caught you by the shoulder as it passed pressing you between his hand and the wall as a small explosion went off. It was nothing like he used in his hero work but it was enough to burn you. Badly.
The charred skin of your upper arm glared at him as you feel to your knees, grasping at the damaged tissue before pulling back with a hiss. The sound of cheap glass followed soon after as he dropped the plate, falling down to the ground next to you.
His hands ghosted over your form, but never once touching you as his face morphed into a mask of shock and horror. He was just as surprised as you. Never had the thought of anything like this happening crossed either of your minds. He never thought that he would be capable of hurting you, and neither had you.
He was quick to react. Pulling out his phone, he punched in a series of numbers. The person on the other end picked up quickly.
âRecovery Girl? Itâs me, Katsuki. I need you to come over to my place quickly. Itâs (F/n), she...I....please just get here. Yes the same address.â
He snapped his phone shut, tossing it to the floor as he reached out to help you up. His fingers grazed your skin, causing you to flinch away from his touch. You instantly regretted the action as you saw the look of hurt cross his face.
He approached you again, careful not to me too fast or touch any bare skin, and his hands barely seemed to ghost over your sides as he helped you up and to the couch.
Once you were settled, he ran and grabbed an ice pack wrapping, it in a towel before pressing it to the damaged skin. You hissed at the contact. âI know, it hurts. Itâll all be okay soon.â The anguish in his voice tore you apart, and you wanted nothing more than to comfort him, but at the moment, all you could do was try not to cry from the pain stemming from your arm. It ran like an electric shock through the rest of your body.
Katsuki paced the floor in front of you, eyes never leaving your form as wore holes into the floor. A few minutes later the doorbell rang and he sprinted to rip it open, revealing Recovery Girl, escorted by Aizawa.
âYouâve really done it this time brat.â
He growled as Bakugo ignored him. Picking up recovery girl and rushing her to your side.
âPlease, help her.â She patted the boyâs spiky hair comfortingly before gesturing for you to lift the towel. You did so, winching as the air met your wound.
It looked nastier now than it did before. Even Aizawa looked surprised.
âWhat the FUCK have you done!â He swatted his former student upside the head. Oddly, he didnât react and retaliate. Not a single cuss word escaped him as he watched the old lady inspect your injury for a moment before her lips stretched out.
As soon as they touched your skin, you instantly felt better. Relief coursing through your body in place of pain as your injury slowly healed itself.
âNow seams like a really good time for a napâ
---------------------------------
When you awoke, you were vaguely confused by your position. Recognizing that you were on the couch with a blanket draped over your body but with no memory of how you got there.
Eyes slowly cracking open, you saw that the only light in the room came from the lamp on the end table, casting a yellowish orange light over the entire room, and the Tv, which was muted with subtitles flashing along the bottom of the screen.
Traveling from the lit screen, you look to the right, towards the lamp. It was on, yet you felt none of itâs direct light on your still sensitive eyes. You jumped when you saw the familiar outline of your boyfriend. His body was positioned just right where it blocked the light from disturbing you, giving him an angelic glow at the same time.
âYouâre awake.ââ
His eyes didnât meet yours, turning instead to the television. He wasnât really watching it though. You could tell from the ways his eyes just stared instead of flicking around to catch all the picture and words. Leaning towards him from the opposite end of the couch, you reached out a hand to place on his arm.
As soon as your skin brushed his, he jumped back like you had burned him.
âLove, whatâs wr-â
âDonât touch me.â
His words were like a slap to the face. Sure, they were nothing he hadnât said to you before. You often had tried to get him to come to bed early when he was up late working on reports, but even then his words didnât hold the cold venom that they did now.
âWhat? Why did I do something wrong?â
He flashed out of his seat, the sudden action startling you. You thought for a moment that he was going to storm away like he often did during your arguments but instead he crouched down before you on one knee, barely fitting between your legs and the coffee table.
His hands pressed into the couch on either side of your knees and at this height he was just below your eye level.
âDonât ever say anything fucking like that again. Iâm supposed to protect you, make you happy. Youâre fucking perfect. A god damn angel. You would never hurt others. Youâre my...my..â
His voice trailed off as his eyes roamed your body. Following his eyes, you saw what he was staring at. A light red hand print. All that remained of your previous injury. It clicked into place for you. Why he was acting like this. The jumpiness whenever you touched him, the space between you two on the couch, the way he couldnât look you in the eye.
âHeâs scared of me. To hurt me.â
âKatsuki. Look at me.â
He ignored your words, instead only continuing to stare at the mark on your untouched skin.
He flinched when you placed your hand on his, trying to pull away. But you wouldnât let him. Keeping a firm grip over his, you placed his palm against your cheek. His eyes flicked to yours and your heart nearly broke when you saw the pain swimming behind them.
ââYou would never hurt me on purpose. I know you. And while your actions were uncalled for,â his grip tensedâ, I could never hate you.â
Leaning forward, you placed your forehead against his, noses nearly touching. Ever so slowly he raised his other hand, placing it on the other side of your face so that he was cradling ever so gently. He leaned forward and placed a hesitant kiss on your lips. The soft, gentle kind reserved for special occasions. one which you eagerly returned, bringing your arms up and running your hands through his soft hair.
âI love you more than anything in this world. So much.â
âI love you too firecracker.â
His eyes flashed and he cocked an eyebrow at the name. You only used it when you were teasing him, and it was normally followed with a string of cuss words from him. He kept his mouth closed this time. Just this once.
A yawn escaped as you realized how tired you were. The side effects of Recovery Girlâs healing no doubt.
âCome on. Letâs get you to bed.â
He stood to his feet and turned off the Tv and lamp before scooping you up bridal style and carrying you to the bedroom. As he set you down he realized that the blankets he had intended to grab this morning were still in the closet. He turned and went to grab them, but you reached out and caught him by the wrist.
âCome on. I want to cuddle.â
He almost laughed at your cute little sleepy face. âI have to go grab more blankets or youâll freeze.â But you still didnât let go.
âAll I need is you.â
He could almost feel his heart melt, relenting as he climbed into bed with you, wrapping his arms around your body as you snuggled into him.
âI love you, idiot.â he whispered as he kissed the top of your head.
