I don’t always agree 100% with him on all issues. This rant really hit home why I participate in politics and want other regular people to as well! September 19 at 9:13am · Hudson, NY Ah, my Democratic brethren… We loathe tobacco companies, but love Democratic Senators who helped Big Tobacco cover up their crimes. We want progressive immigration reforms, but support Democratic politicians who send out mailers attacking immigrants. We bash Republicans who oppose an increase in minimum wages, but support Democratic State Senate candidates who take the same position. We want less government spying and less immunity for telecoms, but praise Democrats who vote for more of both. We are incensed at our nation’s gun violence epidemic, but donate to Democratic friends who oppose reasonable gun control, or who pander to the NRA with boasts about keeping guns under their beds. We want money out of politics, but routinely endorse the richest guy who shows up to run for Congress. We want to protect the environment, but put lawyers who help mining companies in party leadership positions. We despise the military-industrial complex, but our hearts go a-flutter for a member of Congress whose first sponsored legislation was a defense authorization bill benefiting her husband’s family’s arms-making company. We oppose polluters and bottom-feeding big box chains, but want a former First Lady who enriched herself on the boards of Lafarge and Wal-Mart to be our next President… Yeah, the GOP is full of idiots. But we make ourselves look equally idiotic by showing no consistency or integrity, and behaving like blind partisans. No wonder my friend Peter Jung left the party.
