Okay. So, monsters are made of magic, right? We learn this in the library.

It’s safe to assume that monster food is made of magic too, right? Of course it is! What else would it be? Monsters don’t have access to human ingredients while they’re trapped underground, they only have their magic. They use their magic to cook, so they must use it to make their food too, right? And we learn that monster food and human food is different if we talk to one of the monsters in Grillby’s.

What we can gather from this is that monster food does not pass all the way through bodies, and it does not spoil. If we talk to them again, we also learn that they don’t need bathrooms, as the monster food doesn’t pass through them. (I don’t have a screenshot of that, unfortunately). So...it must be made of magic, right? The monsters absorb it. This is how Sans and Papyrus eat. They absorb the food. What this does mean is they can’t eat or drink human stuff. That is what’ll pass through them.

Imagine they go to a human restaurant on the surface with all their friends, excited to try human food for the first time. Sans takes a bite of a burger. Papyrus takes a large sip of water. Then, everyone hears something soft fall to the floor underneath the table. Sans’ pupils are gone, leaving pitch black eyesockets there. The burger has fallen through his ribs, shirt, and onto the ground. They then hear Papyrus cry out, and look up to see water slowly dripping out of the gap in his battle body. (By that I mean the part that is covering his chest).
