We're looking for volunteers to help with Artscapade! Many volunteers are needed to assist with the evening’s activities. Artscapade 2015 will happen on Friday, September 4, from 7–10pm at the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA), and there are a bunch of fun arts activities you can help make happen. Volunteering at Artscapade is a great way to meet fellow students and we hope that you will join us to kick off the new year with Arts at Michigan! Plus, volunteers get a free Artscapade t-shirt!

Developed states have what might charitably be called a schizophrenic attitude towards international refugee law. Determined to remain formally engaged with refugee law and yet unwavering in their commitment to avoid assuming their fair share of practical responsibilities under that regime, wealthier countries have embraced the politics of non-entrée, comprising efforts to keep refugees away from their territories but without formally resiling from treaty obligations.

Just in case you missed the Stamps lecture featuring Shahzia Sikander, it is now available online. Her work is currently on view at UMMA as part of Doris Duke's Shangri La: Architecture, Landscape, and Islamic Art -- BUT NOT FOR LONG! This exhibition closes on Sunday 5/4!
Shahzia Sikander is best known for her experimentation with the formal constructs of Indo-Persian miniature painting through video, animation, murals and collaboration with other artists. Underpinning the work is also Sikander’s interest in paradox, societies in flux, and formal and visual disruption as a means to cultivate new associations. She has received the Medal of Art by US Secretary of State, Hilary Rodham Clinton (2012), John D. and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation Achievement ‘Genius’ award, (2006) and the National Pride of Honor by the Pakistani Government (2005). In 2006, the World Economic Forum, Davos, Switzerland appointed Sikander as a Young Global Leader.
Love Art More + Spoon University
Spoon University, the online food publication powered by a network of food-oriented student communities on college campuses nationwide, has recently brought their publication to Michigan!
Zoe Bohrer's recent blog post features an "assignment" from UMMA's student engagement project: Love Art More. Zoe Bohrer found a piece of artwork in the UMMA that "made her hungry" and created a golden red-velvet cake recipe based off of David Salle's painting Untitled (Dark Red) seen below!
