SO THERE'S AN ULT SELF TREND ON TWITTER SO I JOINED IN
I'm gonna do some more for my friends :)
do you have art of your ult self? I'd love to see 👀
It’s under the cut, spoilered for... Being a little bit risque I guess? Just for safety.
So how does ult selfing work? As far as you know ofc.
The Ult Self is basically the Kernel of the character. Not a specific iteration, but just the like, Ultimate blueprint of the character. Ult Selfing is basically abandoning your particular Iteration of your Self, and becoming attuned to the roots of who your character is, and to every other iteration of you in Paradox Space.
As bullshit as the concept of ultimate self it is fascinating to me. Especially if all Sburb players are fated to become their ultimate self. Like maybe Sollux dying in the black hole may be apart of him becoming his ult. Self so that he'll learn about final death. But I think it's so sad for destroy classes because of their various issues and what an ult self would mean for them. Since, thematically, a prince succeeds when his enemy is dead.
If ult. Selves are based off of classpect rather then the indivual, it makes becoming your ultimate so much more sad because you cant control who you end up being.
Another thing that the epilogues are bad at is explaining the concept of becoming your ultimate self. Like why isn't Dave or John becoming their ultimate self? Is it because of Dirk interference? Is John already his ultimate self cause juju majicks? Did Dirk experience simular headaches and pains that Rose experienced. There's so much vagueness for such an important concept. In HS 1, the vagueness of becoming your Ult self was ok cause it wasnt plot relevant. But now it is and we know nothing.
You’re saying this like Homestuck’s modus operandi hasn’t always been leaving things vague and elaborating later, or not even elaborating at all. We did get a pretty solid explanation though! The Ultimate Self is nothing more than the collection of everyone you’ve been in every Timeline. And going Ultimate, becoming aware of these iterations simultaneously. Something that, actually does play a plot-relevant role during Terezi:Remem8er!
It is not difficult to se why Dirk and Rose are the two that went Ultimate though. Dirk literally already deals with other iterations of himself, and had a split-consciousness with his Dreamself since he was a teen. Rose on the other hand is a Seer of Light, the visions, the forceful breaching of the Ultimate Self, the idea of ‘being consumed by knowledge and losing yourself’, is not too complex of a trope, and it already somewhat started prior to Ascension by remembering her Davesprite Timeline Alt Self vaguely. Dave and John on the other hand have no reason to GO Ultimate, their Classpect Alignment doesn’t lend itself to that, and Rose struggles with identity and fate infinitely more than them. And Dirk does relate to what Rose is going through during the Epilogues! Implying that, if not the exact same state, he at least had a lessened version of it, again, because he was already used to a the idea of a multiplicity of selves way more than Rose.
And of course you have the various degrees of mental states afterwards. Dirk got pumped with a LOT of bad iterations of himself, so he fell into his manipulative tendencies. Rose, ironically, is blinded to the idea of personal desire and pushing for What Must Be Done, a Seer blinded by Light, and Dirk’s own manipulation. Davebot on the other hand, Dave was extremely depressed and Ascension came with the cathartic experience of actually seeing his potential healthy relationships, and assuming his role as a Knight- To protect people, to go out and Do Something beyond the confines of his Timeline, yet in the process he abandoned Candy behind, so it’s obviously not all roses and happiness.
I just feel a lot of this stuff is a lot less vague than some seem to think it is! There’s enough context clues to paint a pretty solid picture of what’s going on here.

I remember you bringing up/supporting the Alpha Caliborn vs Artist Caliborn theory at one point or another. I’m planning (by that mean I have one or two vague ideas in my head lol) on possibly writing my own remake of the Epilogues at some point, do you think it would make sense that Artist Caliborn could potentially actively exert influence on Earth C via Dirk starting to attain his ultimate self?
Oh! Yeah, it mixes the prior theory with new Epilogue Development Theories, so that’s cool!
Since we’re talking about ultimate stuff, i have several questions
1 ) what happens if more than one version of yourself go ultimate ?
2) is alt Callie her ultimate self or not ?
3) if yes, how does it affect Callie prime ?
4) if OG Calliope goes ult as well, what would be the consequences ?
1) Nothing. Ultimateness is the breaking down of those barriers, your self being capable of recalling all those memories, but not necessarily INTERACT with them. For example, Davebot recalls Davepeta’s memories too! He’s connected to every self, but he’s distinct from Davepeta, because while they both have reached that ‘Dave Ultimate Self core’, Ultimateness is the personalization of said core. Okay, so, like... Let me elaborate, I’ve said this before, but Going Ultimate is, in itself, a Paradox. The Ultimate Self is a conceptual ‘Soul’ or ‘Core’ of your character, the embodiment of all your potential and all you could do and could have done. By going Ultimate, you’re basically giving a ‘body’ to this concept, and by personifying it, you’re, in fact, creating a NEW iteration of this character that will act and create new paths and ways for things to go for this conceptual Ultimate Self. So while you reach the Core of your Character, you STILL are a person with the will to act and the ability to do things in different ways. As such, two Ultimate Selves of the same character would not only be able to exist, but also take different paths, by the mere fact they have had circumstances shape their specific iteration differently, and that will diverge from each other the longer that passes between the moment they became Ultimate.
2) She’s not. She’s starting to open up and become a bit more empathetic now, but she doesn’t know, nor understand, normal Callie’s whole vibe. Or at least, pretends like she doesn’t understand and long for connections like Calliope Prime. She’s a Narrator-level entity of immense power, but she is not, in fact, Ultimate.
3) It wouldn’t affect Callie Prime at all! But going Ultimate would PROBABLY make Alt Calliope a LOT more like Calliope Prime and make her less cold.
4) Conversely, Callie Prime going Ult would probably give them more Alt-self Mannerisms, but considering that Alt Calliope is opening up now and how quickly she seems to be forming connection, it feels as though Calliope’s ‘core’ persona is extremely empathetic and forms connections easily, so I would hope they would become more CONFIDENT and driven, without losing much of their self.
The more compfortable you are with yourself, the easier to go Ult without going nuts.
(I would rock it :p)
Yeeeeah, when you don’t struggle with stuff and with your self as much, multiplicity doesn’t have to be bad, necessarily, and it can even be reassuring. That’s why Dirk is such a painful case.
