Love Under the Red Hood as a story but this always stood out to me.

Despite my Drifter feeling very alone in the origin system and incredibly jealous that the Operator has her shit together, they ultimately refuse to walk away and wouldn't accept staying in 1999 for long. The fact that Operator has her shit together more than her is in large part why she cannot leave. The thing is, the Operator shouldn't have her shit together. She's a child soldier who murdered her parents—and not like the other Tenno where their parents were beastial corruptions—Elicen's darkest secret is that their deaths predate the ZT0's void jump by 2 days. She should be as big of a mess as Drifter was in Duviri, and she's not, and it pisses her off.

Sure, coming out of cryo, Operator was way more all over the place due to forgetting she was even a teenager in the first place and only got her temper in check following Chains of Harrow, and Drifter never saw that side of her but she's still 17 and a soldier, politicking across the system, negotiating relations with all of the various syndicates all while Drifter is struggling to keep 6 adults working together.

Drifter is the adult. She wants to be the adult. She needs to be the adult and this dumb fucking teenager should be getting in trouble, falling apart, fucking up, and not having an entire solar system depend on her. So ultimately, while everyone looks to the Operator, Drifter's deepest wish is to have the Operator look to her.

As for the Lotus, Drifter is incredibly tentative. Sure, she pieced The Lotus back together, but that was for the Operator's sake, and while Cen sure sees The Lotus as a maternal figure, Drifter is pretty fucking pissed that The Lotus was quicker to remind the Operator she's a Soldier than remind her she's a kid.

And maybe, maybe Drifter will give up. The Operator and the other proper Tenno are wildly beloved and they all have each other. Maybe the Drifter is simply projecting because she wants to be their for the Operator because no one—beyond Thrax—was there for her. After all, before they were two different people, Elicen was a deeply fucked up child ripped away from her home by her parents pointless ambitions, tossed aside on the Zarimen as they treated it like a luxury cruise line over a simple colony ship, endlessly berated whenever she was home and sometimes locked out of the dormizone entirely because mommy and daddy are oh so in love. Maybe Drifter is just bitter that the Operator got better, that the Operator was given power and not her. Maybe for both their sake she should stay out of the way not smother the child when she clearly doesn't need it...

Fuck it. Posting my map of Expanded Elendel and its various districts for my Cyberpunk Mistborn setting. I have lore for all the Districts (that's what the divisions are called). The size of the city itself is close to that of southern California. About 150,000 km². Takes up 25% of the entire Elendel Basin.

Cyberpunk Marsh. To be more incognito, I thought he'd wear a thick sweater and pair of aviators to hide spikes, plus grow out his hair to hide the tattoos (and spikes from the rear). Not seen easily because of the colors, but he's graying as he coasts along in his 50s because I think silver fox Marsh is what everyone deserves.
