With the knowledge that the Wood in tyrant philosophers exists next to the entire world and can be accessed from anywhere and goes to other worlds entirely, I wonder what would happen if some poor Palleseen expeditionary force ended up on Kern’s World.
I’ve decided this is what happened to most of the hospital tent crew at the end of days of shattered faith by the way. they’re living on spider planet now but it wasn’t relevant so it wasn’t brought up in the new book.

just read Pretenders to the Throne of God! by Adrian Tchaikovsky :]
SPOILERS BELOW!!!!
uhhh pretty good, the weakest in the series thus far, felt a bit less Weird and a bit more settled, probably due to being in a series with lore now!
nice to see Yasnic again, and Prassel, who was my favourite character out of House of Open Wounds (love an evil woman) as well as a continuation on the Caeleen plot! i think the pivot into the finale was a bit weak given the established motives of the characters thus far, but im excited to see how it all closes out! BRING BACK BLACKMANE, AND MY LIFE IS YOURS (etc)
House of Open Wounds is a book very full of entertaining beats and dynamics that are really difficult to explain why they're so amusing without several paragraphs of context.
So to not even try; deeply charmed by the bit where a succubus is sent by the conjurer whose bound her to corrupt and ruin the faith of a priest (as a bit of petty spite over losing a fencing match to his boss/overseer in the army, mostly) only for him to somewhat awkwardly explain that he's not technically a priest and he and his god have really had a more 'it's complicated' thing going for several years now. So not actually any oaths to break, properly speaking.
To which her response is more or less 'huh, cool. Got a deck of cards or a smoke? If I phrase this right I can probably get ordered to come back and try again every night for at least a week."
Silly Game Time: Who are the characters you like best from two stories you really enjoy (of any genre of any medium—novel, comic, movie, show, podcast, game, etc. including OCs if you like)? AND which of them would have an easier time giving someone they know a hug?
I'll nominate Prepotente from Dungeon Crawler Carl, and Maric Jak/Yasnic from The Tyrant Philosophers.
Prepotente is a big softie who gives excellent warm hugs

I love settings where gods can be just pathetic little guys. Yeah I met this gecko the other day and it told me at length of it's past glories, fallen temples and great rites then suggested I give it some blood sacrifice to revive its godly power. I wasn't interested but was too awkward to say so. I just started walking faster and faster until it's little legs couldn't keep up with me, now I have to take the long way home in case it's still there.
This feels like the happiest tyrant philosophers ending.
Pals defeated, demon slavery as a system thrown into uproar, demon fuckers united with their partners, returning to ilmar next book (probably)
A lot of the books have felt like the endings are delaying the inevitable Palleseen conquest even when they're successfully fought off.
Here I genuinely think the palaseen are approaching their twilight. The increasing inner tensions are tearing them apart as seen with The Heretics, the camps, our Lich Queen, the cults. The kings below are not available anymore, so the deals they made with them aren't applicable, throwing any demonology they had into chaos, while traditional demonology like the allorwen had and like many traditionalists who may be in resistance groups likely have will still work by all accounts. They're turning on a lot of very useful magics out of paranoia.
However they did just also win against the loruthi.
I don't think they're done yet but definitely on the decline.
