Another addition to the Mobian/sonic-verse heraldic creatures collection! Here’s the Tygers! (or Tygres, if you prefer~) Heraldic/mythical ‘Tygers’ were at best based on word of mouth descriptions of real-life tigers, or maybe even just jumbled features of wild felines in general, all clumped together to make a fearsome beast used in coats of arms and livery.  One thing I tried very hard to keep and show off in the mobian equivalent is that weird beak-horn-tooth thing that Tygers are always drawn with. I have a feeling it might have originally been a 2d, side-on depiction of bared fangs curving forward that just kind of... Did That, over time. In Mobian Tygers it’s a large pair of fangs, one on the top and one on the bottom jaw, that make a vicious flesh-rending pincer. The original mammal-like ‘snout’ is still there, and the nostrils can be seen a little further back on either side of the top tooth. All of these Tygers have a slightly horse-like mane down their head and neck, and they are most commonly speckled or spotted in some way. Red is their most ‘wild type’/natural coat colour, but there is no restriction on what shade or hue they can be! In terms of abilities, I’m basing it on their name origin: Tyger comes from the persian word for ‘arrow’, and these Mobian Tygers are most skilled at straight line dashing- They have excellent claws for grip and their long heavy tail makes a fantastic counterweight to keep them from going off track or losing balance. The Opinicus is kind of between the features of a griffon and a dragon (I’m enchanted by the weedy tail some of the historical art has). This one is a surgeon/medic, based on the occasional use of the opinicus in medical heraldry! The Pantheon is almost definitely a huge misunderstanding of descriptions of actual panthers and big cats, and only really succeeds at sharing a long tail and having body markings. (It’s described as a deer, usually antler-less or female, with a long foxlike tail and star markings on their body). This Pantheon lady is telekinetic with the ability to fly, because A. Star markings and B. there’s a pantheon crest associated with the Canadian space agency and that’s just rad.  Similarly, the Alphyn and Tygre/Tyger are horribly mis-rendered big cats. I really dig the wacky horn/beak intermediate that’s generally drawn on the snout of Tygres though, The closest thing I can think of looking even vaguely like that is maybe the bearded vulture? Alphyns and their frequently long and tangled tails are cool too. These ones are named after the direct translations of their names from their origin languages.  No solid plans for these characters yet, but I think that Chaser and Arrow have some kind of incredibly vague relationship going on, or at least are incredibly touchy-feely... They work as a mercenary duo, and occasionally Combine with Atmos to make a sonic-heroes styled Speed (Chaser) Power (Arrow) and Fly (Atmos) team. Surge is their emergency go-to for doctoring but less of a teammate and more of a business they frequent. In extreme situations though he can double as a fly-type team member who doesn’t rely on magical/psychic abilities to provide lift.
