i wanted to draw a spookier finnish mythology thing since it’s october! this is a pretty loose depiction of how väinämöinen (an old wizard or shaman who’s often the protagonist in kalevala stories) escapes tuonela, the realm of the dead, by transforming into a snake
featuring the maiden of tuoni, who tried to discourage väinämöinen from taking her ferry to tuonela since he wasn’t even dead yet (and called him an idiot after finally agreeing to take him on board)
there’s also the swan of tuonela, said to be so sacred that anyone who attempts to kill it would be doomed to destruction....so you can probably guess what eventually happens to it
