---    grace  and  dolores   ( @truthsecn )   joined  the  military  at  the  same  time,  straight  out  of  highschool.    nobody  cheated  getting  in  and  they  were  both  equally  as  good.   actually,  they  worked  SO  well  together  that  the  military  kept  them  on  the  same  squad  even  out  of  bootcamp.   their  comradeship  was  invaluable  on  the  battlefield.

---    so  while  grace  is  18  when  she  joins,   that  makes  dani  ramos   ( @tornsurvivors  )  about  25  and  already  a  leading  captain  in the  air  force.     they  keep  their  relationship  absolutely  professional  at  all  times.    grace  respects  rank  without  a  doubt  and  even  after  boot  camp,  grace  and  dolores  end  up  under  the  command  of  dani.   another  invaluable  comradery nobody  could  deny.    they  all  got  shit  done,   they  got  shit  done  neat  and  they  followed  all  guidelines,  respected  the  LOAC  and  were  quickly  becoming  heroes  in  the  fight  against  terrorism.

---    grace’s  mother  and  brother  were  instantly  lost  in  a  terrorist  attack  and  her  father  was  put  on  life  support.     this  all  happened  shortly  after  boot  camp  and  is  one  of  the  pertinent  reasons  grace  is  so  respected.    she  didn’t  get  angry,   she  just  got  determined.    that  is  the  reason  they  all  have  to  fight.    it’s  starting  to  be  revealed  the  terrorist  organization  wreaking  havoc  goes  by  Legion.

---   once  Legion  was  discovered,  a  squad  was  dispatched.    grace  and  dolores  are  captain  and  lieutenant  by  this  point.     the  whole  entire  mission  was  a  set-up  to  rid  the  world  of  it’s  leading  soldiers.    it  was  all  wonderfully  set-up,   with  the  exception  of  dani  not  being  present  because  she  was  leading  something  else  that  grace,  dolores  and  dani’s  brother  would  all  be  on  the  same  team  that  got  brutally  attacked.    diego  died,  grace  nearly  died  and  dolores  was  kidnapped.

---   it  was  revealed  that  grace  would  never  be  able  to  walk  again  and  she  was  diagnosed  with  severe  ptsd.   in  all  her  turmoil,   she  volunteered  for  the  newest  super  soldier  program  that  mirrored  steve  roger’s  super  soldier  program,  but  with  newer  technology.   even  under  all  of  grace’s  duress,  the  gov’t  took  the  volunteer  to  heart.   the  process  took  one  month  and  then  she  isolated  herself  for  one  month  just  to  get  used  to  her  new  body  and  new  abilities.

---   the  end  of  the  one  month,  legion  tossed  another  little  attack  at  tony  stark  because  the  rest  of  the  avengers  were  currently  busy,  legion  thought  they  could  take  out  tony  stark.    with  the  help  of  jessica  jones   ( @survivedempathy ),   grace  stepped  in  to  help  tony  stark,  effectively  thwarting  another  plot.    ( jessica  and  grace  already  know  each  other  from  liasons  of  legion  and  political  menaces  trying  to  ruin  grace’s  reputation  by  hiring  jessica  to  dig  into  grace.    grace  is  a  good  egg.   end  of )      tony  stark,  in  appreciation,  builds  the  sword  to  the  air  force’s  ‘sword  and  shield’   creed,  also  giving  tony  new  technology  from  the  super  soldier  program  to  work  with.

      Well --- if THAT is not a most welcome sight upon marching out of the apothecary shop with a jar of writhing leeches crammed up the pocket of one’s coat! Certainly more pleasant than the usual, e.g. George tripping all over his own feet ( or indeed those of uninvolved bystanders ) while rubbing down the horses, and on certain days particularly disfavoured by fortune, handfuls of mud flicked at the carriage windows by various street urchins. Anne’s gaze is one of thoughtful appreciation, sweeping from the young woman’s outstretched hands to her ringlet-framed face with a certain edge of humour attesting to an unexceptionally bright mood. And why SHOULD she mope?! She has been anticipating the leech delivery for many slow-passing weeks. 

      “ Careful. You’ll spoil them. ” She pauses unusually by the carriage door, not alighting just yet, but delivering a good, hearty pat to the backside of the animal closest to her with a gloved hand. “ Mmm. And watch out for old Hotspur here --- his finer instincts have abandoned him YEARS ago, I’m afraid. He can hardly tell a carrot from a FINGER these days; can you, Hotspur? ” 

   the rising hostility between dolores and there mother had inevitably come to a head, with escalation imminent. penny had been quick to put herself between the two of them, and she’s certain her sister might want to be left alone. she’d never been good at that. giving them breathing room when they needed it, because it felt like leaving the bad blood to stew would only make things worse as times go on. that’s how penelope comes to be slipping right up onto her twin’s bed and moving to rest an arm around her middle. “remember, when the going gets tough? the labour of our love will reward us soon enough.”

“At night, I hear things Dolores, a kind of low growlin’, an agitation and it ain’t wolves or coyotes, it ain’t any man nor beast, it’s me, it’s coming from me, somethin’, somethin’ inside…here.”

The Bounty Hunter taps against the side of his head, unable to meet her eye, lest she see the fear now so evident in his.

“I’m haunted Dolores, by so many things, phantoms without names, faceless voices, voiceless faces…a past I ain’t never lived and none of it makes any goddamned sense…”

He pauses, hesitant about sharing these thoughts, worried she might think him mad, but it’s difficult to carry this burden alone. 

“I see you round Sweetwater every day, smiling sweetly at any stranger that passes your way, that’s what they see; that smile, your heart, shining bright and warm as any summer’s day, so bright sometimes it dazzles them some….”

Removing his hat, Samuel swallows hard, half wishing the ground beneath him might swallow him whole, given what he’s about to admit.

“I see that smile too Dolores, but I ain’t reminded of no summer’s day…no, I’m reminded of Escalante, of choking on my own blood, surrounded by bodies, crimson blindin’ my vision as you shoot several rounds straight into my chest, like you’re puttin’ down a lame horse.”

His hands are shaking as he reaches for his flask and takes a long deep sip of whiskey. There’s a laugh of disbelief as he chokes it down so hard it burns his throat. Only then does he finally raise his head to capture her gaze. 

❝   𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒   𝐖𝐎𝐍'𝐓   𝐃𝐎   𝐀𝐓   𝐀𝐋𝐋 .    if you cry, you’ll have a puffy face -- your mask will hardly fit. that’s unacceptable, really. no no, up you get, dolores. we don’t have very much time at all and miracles do take time, so we must make use of whatever it is we do have! ”        hands are outstretched to pull the poor dear up to her feet from the sobbing puddle she’s in now. it’s doubtful she’ll recognize elsie as her fairy godmother; after all, she’s kept to the shadows for so long, just a watchful eye with no real presence. 

“Is your blood just for aesthetic purposes?” Rex asks out of curiosity. “Only, I see that it’s red.”
