the  voices  around  the  throne  room  hall  echo  quietly,   choruses  of  different  voices  chiming  in  to  create  a  social  function.    emily  kaldwin  didn’t  have  the  same  type  of  coronation.    circumstances  were  far  too  dire  for  her  to  wait  to  be  of  age.    corvo  &  a  few  select  members  of  a  royal  court  made  the  bigger  decisions.   emily  was  just  a  figurehead  until  her  first  big  decision:    the  regenters  fates  after  they  attacked  she  &  alexi  mayhew.    emily  just  glanced  at  corvo’s  features,   standing  tall,   hands  linked  behind  her  back.   a  very  rigid,   proud  stance.    corvo  attano  is  many  things,   but  he  has  never  once  failed  at  being  an  excellent  father.    spymaster  isn’t  the  reason  he  knows  her  friendships;    it’s  the  fact  she  cares.     emily  was  planning  on  congratulating  elsa  as  it  was.   a  speech  about  region  bonds,   something  uplifting  to  promote  unity  &  allyship.    emily’s  lips  are  pursed.    no,   he’s  asking  not  out  of  the  empress  to  the  new  queen  of  emily’s  empire --     but  to  be  an  old  friend  again.

‘ he’s an idiot. ’ 

maybe it’s not the  fondest  way to describe his brother  ,  but it was  true  sometimes.  a sigh reverberates through hollow armor  ,  lingering in the joints  &  warming cold metal joints.  if he could  ,  he’d smile  ,  instead  ,  he closes his eyes  ,  metal creaking  &  shifting as his hands settle on his hips now. 

‘ and stubborn.  and angry, and short-tempered, and rude, and an idiot. ’ 

his voice is frustrated  ,  a rare release of  any  kind of negativity for alphonse.  but  ,  for all his faults  &  flaws  ,  he loves his brother dearly.  even when he makes it so  difficult  to sometimes.  they’re all they have  ,  really. 

‘ ....he’s also caring, and strong, and driven. ’ 

you don’t get to be the youngest state alchemist without having drive  ,  alphonse thinks.  edward is good  &  kind  &  warm  when he lets himself be  ,  but he doesn’t  ,  not often enough.  barely 15  &  his brother carries the weight of the world on his shoulders.  he wishes he could take some of that burden  ,  he’s strong enough to carry it now  ,  strong enough to do just about anything.

‘ i wish he’d just....be a little less stubborn.  we’re all we have left, and sometimes.... ’ 

i worry he’ll work himself to death for my sake.

❝ Elsa ?  ❞  Befuddled delight overtakes him  ( They are alright, they are safe and together and alive ! )  and he flings himself into her arms. But as he snuggles into his mother   creator, other, older memories filter in. Promises of doing things together, and a lovely warm hug, only for himself and Anna to be sent away.  --  You have every right to be very, very mad at her.

❝ You left me ! ❞   He lifts his head from her shoulder to show her how unhappy he is, though he isn’t willing to make her let go.  ❝ You said you wouldn’t go alone, and then you sent us away !   You lied and you left me behind, and then I was flurrying, and I was so scared... ❞
