Something that’s always bothered me about the tfota world: truenames
So we all know Lady Asha is a next level bitch, right? And we all know she tries to twist Cardan’s arm and she burned his letters and blah blah blah. But she ultimately is harmless, she usually doesn’t really get what she wants.
That means that she doesn’t actually have any control over Cardan, which means she must not know his truename.
If Cardan’s own mother doesn’t know his truename, then who does? How is a faerie given a truename? Is it assigned from birth? How do they find out about it? Is it something they choose themselves and, if so, when does the choice occur? Does a faerie have a time where they can’t be controlled because they have no truename?
(And it’s probably not a question of fathers knowing truenames, because if Madoc knew Vivi’s he would’ve probably used it to force her to help him against Jude. So clearly truenames aren’t given by parents.)
In conclusion: how tf do truenames work
