I loved that scene between Admiral Inokuchi and Kido. Last season General Onada was bloodthirsty and Kido worked against him and save the world from war and Japan from destruction. He got lucky and survived this but only because Onada died in a terrorist attack. The attack that cost Kido his closest friend.
Now his new boss is exact opposite. He wants to be nice to the “natives”. Persuade them to Japanese superior culture and way of life, civilise them - you know normal colonial stuff. Only punish when they must. Just as Kido wants to take revenge on these terrorist.
Inokuchi isn’t good but, like Kido last season, worthy to root for just so more people can survive. At least he wants to stop killing just to terrorise the occupied populations. His condescension is better than Kido’s revenge. But Kido doesn’t like it and that makes me worried about Inokuchi’s longevity.
And then, to add insult to injury, Inokuchi lets Tagomi have Juliana and Trudy. It seems like the alliance between Tagomi and Kido reached its end. But I loved Tagomi’s explantation about Trudy - she’s not the same person. It’s true. And it’s obvious. But it’s also an insult because it’s rubbing in the things Kido doesn’t know. Nothing worse then a secret holder to a secret police operative. So I’m worried about Tagomi too.

Ma wasn't always around, so a lot of the time it was just the two of us. You know, Trudy had the best imagination. As long as I could turn it into a story or a game, she wasn't afraid of anything. I used to tell her that if we waved at the Japanese bombers that they would just keep flying and they'd leave us alone. And no bombs would fall on us as long as we sang. We used to skip to the shelter, singing "Follow the Yellow Brick Road."
