1x07 meta rewatch spark notes edition (part 1)
"I'm fine." "You're not fine, you need rest" -> Ezran doesn't take care of himself / fronts as much as everyone else (if not more so) strikes again
"But somehow, you made it." / "But somehow, you got past that." yeah yeah yeah
"Maybe she was watching over us." / "But I do know I will be watching over you and your brother, always." / "He just stood and watched." / "Are you watching?"
Zym's light fading ("it's even darker than when I left") could swing around in an interesting way with all of arc 2's over light and darkness motif stuff tbh
Butterfly before Soren and Claudia show up on the scene on their father's mission ("a volunteer? how eager") is sickening. knight sibs butterfly symbolism meta when
I've said this before and I'll say it again: the structure of Soren and Claudia tracking the boys in s1/s2 vs the trio + Soren tracking Claudia in seasons 4 and 5 continues to be an in-series inversion of all time
"He spends most of his training falling in the mud." /
Rayla's quick look and smile at Callum before "there it is, a town. i knew i saw smoke" is like yeah they 100% bicker (argued?) about this beforehand, good for her
"Yeah, I'm not sure that's gonna cut it." and then her disguise doesn't last, the dagger can't cut her binding, and her swords can't cut Phyrrah's chains <3
I probably spend too much time thinking about the economic implications / realities and worldbuilding of Ellis' town, especially back in the hiatus days, but uh, I'll do it again!
s1 Callum being like "oh my god Rayla shut up" (with a concerned edge) whereas Ezran is cheerful and agreeable as hell is a dynamic I do miss, I will admit (again, love you s4)
Sunforge dagger and Novablade parallels are sickening. 1x07 Meta topic locked tf in
On that note the retrospective setup of "an archdragon's bite is really fucking powerful (and weird)" is also taking me tf out and ruining my life a little bit, tbh
It is also funny that Rayla's first two group projects (being an assassin and the egg mission trio) were similar enough, where everyone else was either fully in agreement and doing their jobs (assassin troupe) and she was the one going rogue, or in the trio where they like, made plans and Stuck To Them ("just meet back here at the statue" and then, they do) only for her to then get stuck with Soren in the Drakewood who is good at listening yes, but not good at listening to her, and her assumption he would is like. the group project has now fallen apart (Soren is stuck in a hole)
"Every minute we sit here, the step-prince and the crown runt get further and further away" & "i did what the queen told me and sat on my hands" vs "these things take time" "sometimes you need time to work through the weird" "give it a moment. let your eyes adjust" "we'll have to wait for the elves to come to us" and 7 year wait for Aaravos. yeah yeah yeah
"Whatever she saw, she's lucky it only scared her" but Marcos is the horse (human) and Rayla is Lujanne's illusions. yeah
"I want to help, but I won't be able to unless you tell me what's really going on. I promise you I'm not going to get you in trouble. You need to trust me." series thesis statement, i think (also fun turn around after the kids being let down and/or lying to adults in their lives -- Viren, Harrow, Runaan, Amaya -- in quick succession)
Dagger resource sharing allegories for magic and food i said oh i'm sure
"but it'll burn you" sunforge blade sunforge purification ritual with the binding and dark magic parallels i Love you
god she's so fucking cute
"I'm not going to hurt you. And I'm not going to steal from you either." RIP Callum
"I'm afraid it's dying." "There has to be something you can do. Anything." and then immediately followed by "WE'LL FIND ANOTHER WAY"?? im gonna be sick
"without it, ava would be dead." / "without magic, you would be dead" is loaded as fuck lemme tell you
Ellis' silent Indigenous mother I think about you every damn day
"We have too many mouths to feed already" like COME ON
There's so much in Ellis' story that parallels other things in the series but in a contradictory way (ie. Ellis bringing Ava somewhere cold "where no one would follow us" being very Rayllum's journey to the Starscraper and thinking they could safely leave the Pearl there as a small example) that I'm like. idk will probably be a meta breakdown that breaks my brain one day, but I kinda want to wait and see where the the series' actually lands on some stuff to see how much we might swing around back (if at all) to it thematically
Claudia having to douse the (dark) magic light in order to allow nature to guide her way to a place both her parents' had shown her is not only like. very in line with everything TDP is, but also specifically in the "i thought the arcanum connection would be One Thing and it was the Opposite actually" that we also see spread throughout multiple characters / concepts / relationships throughout the series that's really lovely. we have fun
