In the meadows of the abandoned island of Swona, Orkney, the Trifolium pratense (red clover) was flowering. The roots have the ability to fix nitrogen, enriching the soil for the grazing feral cattle. The flowers are popular with bumblebees for their nectar.

A strange concentration of clover.
#3590 - Trifolium tormentosum - Woolly Clover
Native to Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa, so unsurprisingly once it was introduced to Australia and New Zealand as a cover crop it found the climate very much to its liking. Also found in California and some other US states, but surprisingly doesn't seem as common there.
