Woods walk with my good old man, & beech drops
Beechdrops, Epifagus virginiana, a non-photosynthetic plant with no chlorophyll, parasitic on American beech trees. Apparently they don’t harm the trees, in fact its seeds couldn’t germinate without a chemical produced by beech tree roots. I saw hundreds of them today, most of them in bloom. Their flowers are those tiny red and white things at the top of the stems.
