hey, uh.... you said in your fic something about not wanting to tag a subtly trans character as trans, talking about dazai. I was wondering if you could help me understand how you see dazai as subtly trans. I'm trans too and dazai's my fav. of course, you don't have to.
of course! my trans Dazai headcanon is so deeply entrenched that Iām not sure Iām even capable of writing him as cis anymore.Ā
canon evidence for Dazai being trans ranges fromĀ āhe uses gender neutral pronouns for himselfā. thereās probably more, but mostly I think. he wears extensive bandages = he probably uses them to bind as well.Ā
now, when I characterize Dazai as trans, I think a lot about the sort of behavior I practice as a nonbinary trans person; in this fic, where I wrote nonbinary girl Dazai, she binds, wears masculine/neutral clothes, and wears her hair short to prevent people from easily realizing that sheās /A Woman/ - because sheās not, even if she doesnāt have the terminology to describe her experiences.Ā
in these two fics, where Dazaiās genitals basically never come up, the references to him being trans are contained in throwaway lines about how difficult he finds it to breathe, Mori warning him his ribs will warp, or in the line at the beginning about him having a cunt.Ā
thereās a lot of ways to write trans characters, and I love writing Dazai as trans partly because thereās so many ways for to me to take things hinted at in canon and weave them into what I think and know about Dazai. and I tend to love every trans!Dazai headcanon, ranging fromĀ ābinary trans manā toĀ ānonbinary girlā toĀ ātransfemā toĀ ānonbinary masc-adjacent with objectification feelsā (which is totally not projection, not at all)
tldr I love trans headcanons and I love Dazai and I love finding ways to shoehorn trans Dazai into everything I write.Ā
