Did you know that Danish social security numbers are gendered? That no matter how well you might pass you’ll be outed every time you go to the doctor. Every time someone ask for ID. Every time you have to apply for something, kindergarten for your future kids for example.
Now, that could be ok if legally changing your gender wasn’t the hardest fucking shit.
There is ONE place to go in all of Denmark and they’ve said that their true job is to ‘talk you out of it’ instead of helping you out with hormones and therapy. The majority of those who seek help from them gets rejected after the first few meetings. Usually they’re diagnosed with something else than transsexuality, a sub-diagnose in the mental illness spectrum. Because here in Denmark, being trans is a mental illness. Yippee yay.
So sometimes, just sometimes I have a hard time feeling sorry for other trans people. Because if I get rejected by the ‘clinic’ after a few conversations that’s IT. I can’t complain or get a second opinion from another clinic. I can’t even go back to the ‘clinic’ later and try again. You get ONE shot, and if they don’t think you’re suffering from this illness the rest of your life is ruined. I’ll have to have kids with my girlfriend as a lesbian couple. I’ll have to marry her as a girl. I’ll try to put my kids in school and the principal thinks its odd that a man and wife shows up, not two women.
And I gotta just quickly mention the law that applies here. The castration law. Sweden just removed it. But 12 countries still has it, mine included. If I ever get as far as to change my gender legally I’ll have to submit myself to mutilation just to change the F to an M. Doesn’t matter if I had bottom surgery, nahah.
So as I said. I find it hard to feel sympathy with some of you. And for that I’m sorry. But maybe you ought to wake up and realise that you’ve got better conditions than other people. I’m not saying you should feel sorry for me or that it’s not ok to feel sorry for yourself. But things will get better. You have to remember that.
