guy gardner is trans, here’s why;
it makes his entire backstory fit in so much better in various ways.
his relationship with his alcoholic abusive piece of shit father for one. it gives us a more in depth reason for why his dad sucks, not only is he a horrible abusive human: he’s also extremely transphobic. always propping up mace (guys older brother) on a pedestal, saying how great he’s doing. despite how hard guy tries with his academics and in sports, its never quite enough for his father. because ‘you’ll never be a real man, not like your brother mace is. i dont know what you are, but you’re no son of mine’
so this leads to guy always trying to overcompensate to get his masculinity on a level similar to his brothers, or a level that he thinks his father wants from him
this is the start of guys whole ‘guy’ persona. this is where he takes all the stereotypical things he knows are associated with ‘guys guys’ and amps it up as high as he can (like, honey, changing your name legally to guy was a bit much. but we know this and we love you for it)
which look, ok, no where in canon does it state guy changed his name... buut... honestly theres no way a kid is given the birth name GUY. theres just... not
unless, said kid grew up in a body that he wasnt meant to, and he wanted to stick it to his father one last time... by proving, he is in fact, a real goddamn guy
he admits to kyle that the frat boy behavior is just an act, probably picked up to pass better or to be taken seriously as a man. a lot of trans people feel pressured to overperform their gender to be seen as a “real” (whatever their gender is)
we have flashbacks of his father losing his shit at guy all because he styled his hair cut based on one of his favourite male idols/heroes
he became a teacher for kids with disabilities: because he wanted to listen and help these kids, who maybe sometimes people would overlook or not care to get to really know... something guy could easily relate too
