Hi, I'm gonna share a tottmnt edit and maybe talk too much about it. Hope u enjoy it
This is the second time I've made this post because the previous one didn't save, don't let me down this time, Tumblr
I made this one a while ago, still think it's pretty good. But most of the people I showed it to didn't really understand the relationship between the song and the show, the "meaning" so to speak. Probably because I made it especially for myself, based on what I want to happen in the show and my headcanons. But since I wanted to share it with you and I'm bored (and I'm not going to study for my exam tomorrow) i wanna try to explain it. Again this is one of those posts I do mostly for myself, but I want to see if anyone sees what I see. It's gonna be messy, enjoy it. Kisses.
I know the first season showed almost nothing about their relationships with humans, but I was always surprised by how positive they all were. I'm not saying everyone should hate them, they saved the city after all, they're heroes and celebrities, but we all know how weird and complicated the things can get between a fan and a famous person. We can say that i was expecting more things like Rob (Rod? Creepy guy who works for bishop) interactions, fanaticism but without really seeing them as people, more like things, cool creatures. Even a bit like April at the beginning of the film, given that she didn't help them so they could have a normal life and go to school, they were just a means to get what she was looking for. She didn't really care about them or what harm they might suffer by associating with a criminal gang (speaking of the beginning of the movie ofc).
This edit is kind of a vague representation of that idea, since I'm not yet deep enough into tottmnt to write a fanfic about it or watch one that already exists. Because I genuinely believe their battle for acceptance in society is far from over. Right now, they're an exotic creature whose existence is still debated for everyone.
I can imagine groups of teenagers going into the sewers at night to try to find their house, religious groups harassing them and calling them demons, television channels following them everywhere they go and questioning every single thing they do, long debates on the internet about them with too much information about the private lives of some children, hundreds of paparazzis running behind them, the army wanting to recruit them and the police looking any excuse for arrest them, groups of scientists wanting to do experiments on them and, them, the mutants, without being able to do anything because, after all, they have no rights, the law doesn't apply to them, and, let's face it, an American police officer, who is he going to take the side of? The human side? Or the mutant/marginal community side?
It's not something I think the show is going to address at all, but I like to think about it. How society still doesn't see them as people, it sees them as mutants, it doesn't see them as kids wanting to study, it sees them like a show, like a weird thing that maybe is not even real, like dolls, dolls that can't complain, 'cause they're not people.
So yeah, that would be more or less the idea I had with this edit. Let me know what you think
