Played Mario Odyssey and beat it today. Decided that the mini bosses deserve some love too. Starting with the UFO alien looking thing that started it all, Torkdrift. I like to call her Teevee
Evil alien robot, botloved,,
Name: UFO? Little UFO? Baby UFO? I will call it Baby UFO
Debut: Super Mario Odyssey
Whoever decided these should be called Baby UFOs, they were right! This thing is an absolute baby that Iâd like to cradle in my arms and protect. Yes, these may have previously been mentioned in our Yoofoe post, but I have decided they deserve an entire post. I love them!
Baby UFO is a little baby version of Torkdrift, the boss of Steam Gardens, but I must say, quite a bit cuter. A smaler, more compact design is bound to be cuter than the alternative, and WOW! ONE eyestalk! You NEVER see just one eyestalk! Itâs phenomenal! Innovative! It inspires us all to be better people.
What are you looking at, Baby UFO? Examining the world with an intact sense of childhood wonder? Probably. Another neat thing about Baby UFO is that they contain flowers, which Torkdrift seeks to collect above all else... maybe theyâre powered by the flowers, and Torkdrift is just trying to help its babies! Or... make babies. Not like THAT! The way a robot would! By assembling a baby from baby blueprints.
Oh! Now itâs looking at me! I need to make a good impression! Not so good that it thinks Iâm its mother, since I am unfit, being a biped, but good enough that it would not feel threatened. To avoid threatening the baby, I will reassure it that I will NOT make any attempt to throw my hat at it in hopes of getting a Power Moon, like a certain someone might. That someone shall remain nameless for anonymity.
Ultimately, I think Baby UFOâs design is fascinating to analyze. Regular Torkdrift has a pretty great design, I dig it. But Baby UFOâs design secures it a spot on my Best Ever Characters list, alongside the likes of Pooka and Plugg! Itâs all thanks to it being more simple and cute, and it may ultimately be âjustâ a simplified version of Torkdrift, but it shines so much on its own to me. I love this baby UFO.
Mech of the wilder-garden
Name: Spindrift
Debut: Super Mario 64
Hey! Remember that post about Choppa(h) that we made a couple months ago? Well, I sure hope you liked it! And I hope you like the concept of ânon-distinct plant creature with vertical helicopter bladesâ because... thereâs a whole bunch of them! Starting with Spindrift here.
Spindrift is... An orb? With a flower head? If you bounce on them you get to do a spin-jump, which is... pretty cool, I guess. Spindrifts never reappeared beyond the DS remake, but they were in a beta screenshot for New Super Mario Bros., not to mention...
Name: Torkdrift
Debut: Super Mario Odyssey
Hey! Did you know that Torkdrift is a mechanical Spindrift?! I sure didnât, until I was researching this post! Its Japanese name is Mekafuwafuwa-san, with Fuwafuwa-san being Spindriftâs name... so, Mecha Spindrift!Â
Really though, can you blame me? It doesnât look like a Spindrift at all! Even so, itâs quite weird in its own right... Like, some kind of flower-based UFO? And do my eyes deceive me... are those eyestalks? Hooray! You just canât go wrong by giving anything eyestalks. Anyway, you find Torkdrift in the Steam Gardens area, where heâs sucking up all the flowers for Bowserâs wedding. Their whole boss fight is based around smashing their glass container with an Uproot... once you confront them, theyâll get mad and say, in classic robot all-caps:
âFLOWERS FLOWERS FLOWERS. MUST HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS. DO NOT MESS WITH ME, BIPED.â Â
Which is the first time Iâve seen biped used as an insult. It... kind of hurts, honestly.Â

[1794] Torkdrift from Super Mario series
For that post with the Haven from Advent of Ascension, what shader did you use? I'm looking for one that has the foliage-waving effect that's compatible with the modded foliage
I used Ziipzaaps Shaders V2 for version 1.7.10 of MC! However, it isnât, like, automatically compatible with mods like AoA, I had to manually edit the shaderpackâs âgbuffers_terrain.vshâ file and add the leaves and flowers/grass IDs for them to wave like vanilla foliage does. BUT technically it can be compatible, so there ya go ^^â
HELLO
im an absolute sucker for this character but i dont know any japanese at fucking all (i know im uncultured) so i was wondering if anyone could help me out--i really want to know what the designerâs note and all the info on the right side says, and im too lazy to wait for the book to be translated. the original image was grainy as hell so i tried to upscale it if it helps
