✨😮✨World renowned men and women break dancers from Philadelphia, Boston, and Sacramento teaching 90-minute breaking workshops in @laneycollege’s dance studio next week. These workshops are free only to Peralta students. ...absolutely must present Student (Peralta) ID card to attend. 3 general skill level workshops on Friday, February 22nd. 1 workshop on Sunday, February 23rd with three skill levels: novice, intermediate, and advance Location: Laney College D room 100 4:30-9pm Location: Laney College D room 100 5pm-8pm Skills and Knowledge Dance teachers (Heat Rock, Box Won, Macca, and Machine, will go over the basics and foundations of the forms of breaking. Heat Rock will teach #Toprocks and a bit of footwork Box Won will be teaching his world famous Bred2Burn workshop that has toured several countries and is now coming to Oakland!! Macca will cover the vibrations and soul of the dance, giving us her unique style. Machine will cover how to be a wholesome dancer in the world of breaking, teaching the simplicities and complexes of dance Development of Dance Verbiage In breaking culture there are four main components of the dance: Toprock The footwork of the dance, on feet , etc #Footwork The groundwork/floorwork of the dance persay Power Physics, centripetal force, circular motion, the spins of the dance. Popular moves are known as: Flares,Windmills, and #Headspins Freeze The last component of the 4, the freeze. Freezes are the cherry on top to a break set. An ideal freeze is picture perfect showing all angles of the set. Workshop Objective By the end of this program we desire to: Have fun Gain new perspectives in #dance Understand the physics of #BreakDance and its vocabulary Mastery of the 8 count Workshop Length Friday : Each workshop is 1.5 hours Workshop Length Sunday: Roughly 3 hours (brink a snack) and water breaks Participants: Local youth between ages 15 - 50. (All ages welcome!) Workshop Pace: This is a facilitated course with self guided material allowing for students to learn and progress at a steady pace.
