I’m thinking about the reader that mentioned Raider Tommy. I’ve also been thinking about when their paths might cross. I was wondering if he would poke fun of Joel for going “soft”? But what might Joel’s reaction be? I feel like he might have a setback. Maybe he thinks that his obvious caring for Sweet Pea has made his men and others think he’s “gotten soft” and he obviously can’t have that since his basic lot in life is to show people how dominant and alpha he is. So, maybe it makes him turn more violent again, trying to prove he hasn’t lost it? Or maybe he does what the other person mentioned and basically tries to make an excuse, like Sweet Pea is just his responsibility now and he has no choice?
Great thoughts! 🖤 This is an area where there might be some deviation from canon or fanon. Idk when they separated in canon but in this world Joel might have pushed Tommy away really early in the outbreak in the course of leaving his entire life behind, unable to handle any reminder of who he was and Sarah's death. They probably did some bad stuff together, but Joel hadn't evolved into his full post-outbreak persona. Something happened and Joel snapped and they split.
In my head, this Tommy was always kinda dark even pre outbreak. Like maybe he was hardened by serving time. But also became worse post-outbreak.
Tommy only recently came back to the general area. When it comes to what a bad guy Joel is, Tommy probably hears more about Joel than he's ever seen first hand. He might even reap some benefits of Joel's reputation lol, nepotism baby raider. So I'm not sure if Tommy would be the one to accuse Joel of going soft, but Joel's men could for sure, and either of the reactions you describe would track (and/or hurting/killing people to make examples out of them ). When Joel and Tommy eventually cross paths, Tommy could have other words for him.
I think you've talked about how raider!Tommy might interact with sweet pea but I also wonder about how angel would react to meeting raider!Joel and seeing how he's being soft with sweet pea. Does she get jealous? Does she crush on raider!Joel? And how would raider!Tommy handle all of that? 👀
omgfggf if tommy's reader got a crush on raider Joel 🥺🥺🥺. and who wouldn't, tbh. I feel like someone in that situation couldn't have a normal crush on him like it would be incapacitating 😩. hopefully she'd hide it. maybe Joel would have to talk some sense into her, call her pathetic, say its never gonna happen. seeing him be mean could help or hurt if tommy's awoken something in her lol. there's also something that makes this even worse for her but I have to resist telling this whole story before writing it lmao
I’m so excited for the eventual raider Tommy/raider Joel crossover. I like imagine Tommy’s at Joel’s trailer and reader hears them so she comes out like “Joel?” And Tommy’s just like what the fuck?? And he’s all like damn Joel look at you. And maybe he’s kinda making fun of Joel for how obsessed and gentle he is with the reader. And maybe Joel is like: “she’s mine now I gotta take care of her.”
And Tommy’s like ummm taking care of her is carving ur name on her chest?
And Joel’s like “she ain’t always been this good. Besides it was for her own good wasn’t it sweet pea.” AND SHE J NODS LOOKING AT THE FLOOR AHAHAHAH IM A TERRIBLE PERSON
Maybe tommy is like come on lemme have a little feel and Joel’s like NO. But maybe he can look but he can’t touch so Joel makes reader take off all her clothes and possibly plays with her a little bit in front of Tommy to give him a show? Cucking? Ahahahahaha weeeeeee!
Awwwww about the carving, I can see her either nodding and looking at the floor and/or instantly hating Tommy and getting really defensive of Joel 🥹 I'm excited for the eventual crossover too, I have plaaaaaans 😵💫

okay I understand the appeal of Tommy being the only guy Joel can sorta tolerate around his reader. but for raider Joel?? where everything is turned up to 100? i need raider!joel to put his foot all the way down. he’s not letting any guy touch his reader, no exceptions. like a stray animal really - can’t share, won’t share, protects his territory with ferocity as if he’ll never get it back if he shares
That is correct, there is no chance of raider Joel tolerating anyone touching his reader. Don't expect the usual brother tropes - sharing, cucking, group sex, romantic jealousy.
