"I resist writing "going to" as "gonna"—it feels like an affectation—but the "going to"s here are decidedly, emphatically "gonna"s. As to the song, I tracked it in the concrete room Tom Waits once favoured at Prairie Sun. I was isolated in there while the band played live in the adjacent studio—playing in isolation didn't fit the energy I wanted, so I asked Mooka, the studio owner, to come sit with me while I played vocals and guitar live together. He sat directly facing me, listening thoughtfully to a song nobody outside of camp had ever heard before. An indelible memory for me of a session we could not have known would become such a part of us in the years ahead."
