Repost from @robertjkenner 💙 11 years ago today Nipsey Hussle released his landmark independent mixtape ‘The Marathon’ featuring this striking portrait by @jorgepeniche on the cover, which was overlaid with Hussle’s powerful lyrics to create Peniche’s final cover design. 🏁🏁🏁 Most of the music on the tape was recorded and engineered by Hussle himself. “Pretty much 90% of it,” said producer Wizzo, who crafted the beat for ‘U Don’t Got A Clue’ in an interview with VIBE magazine. ”I can tell because when I would go back and check out the Pro Tools sessions of some of the tracks, you can always hear the squeaky sound, which is the door to the studio. You could hear [makes door creaking sound] and then he goes in and he closes it and he goes, ‘Yeah.’ And he finishes, and he goes [makes creaking sound].” Hussle’s determination and work ethic remain a powerful inspiration to this day.
