So look⦠hereās the deal. Ā I spent a week poking out the story of last weekendās San Rafael Sunset Criterium. Ā A week trying to figure out how to tell the story without sounding like too much of a cry for help⦠but you know, still making sure everyone knew that I was robbed!
So hereās the story⦠Much shorter⦠and probably closer to the truth that everyone would have read.
At the San Rafael Sunset Crit, I took a lap on the field with one other rider (Alto Velo - Sea Suckerās Aldo Ilesic) and with three laps to go⦠I crashed and finished off the podium.
Oooouf. Man, I gotta tell you⦠It kind of hurts when you take out all the bullshit racers excuses, but! when you think about it⦠the sob story that you tell yourself when you take a bad beat isnāt what people want to hear. Ā People dont want to hear sad stories about being lied to and cheated on, they want to be brought up. Ā Uplifted.
So lets rewind and tell this same story a different way. Ā
At the San Rafael Sunset Criterium, a real deal national criterium⦠ I was able to lap the field and understand what I needed to do to take a HUGE race win. For someone that started racing bikes in 2013, I think that is something to hang my hat on.
Here is the moral of the story. Ā Bike racing is hard. Ā Just like in life, youāre going to learn the lesson time and time again that nothing is free and you have to work for everything. Ā 99% of the time, it won't work and youāll be sent back to the drawing board with your tail between your legs to come up with another solution but if you dont give up and you find a way to look at even the toughest situation in a positive light⦠someday the stars might align. Ā So keep learning. Take everything that you do on with wide eyes and remember that nobody wants to hear your sob story of how āi should have wonā... make a story people want to hear and bring along everyone that helped you get there.

More action from this weekend. Dana and I lapped the field together at the Berkeley Streets Crit. Thank you Cal Cycling for hosting such a fun event.Ā (via Timeline Photos - Team Mikeās Bikes)
