Rui was terrified he would inadvertently touch you. He was a greater danger to you than the anomaly, yet you insisted on him staying safe in your shared hiding spot, despite the risk of a single point of skin on skin contact. If it weren’t undignified, he would have pulled his shirt over his head, since his face was the only skin he couldn’t help but keep exposed. His mouth went dry trying to keep still. He gripped his sleeves to make sure they wouldn’t ride up and hoped your legs wouldn’t cross in such a way that exposed your ankles. He’s had worse luck than that before. 

Why, oh why couldn’t you have chosen another locker. He was too shocked to protest when you slipped in with him, miraculously not getting yourself killed because he reflexively turned his head away. 

Rui reached into his pocket for a small contingency in case he was ever in a ridiculous situation like this. He hadn’t planned on using it, but it was better than risking your life and his mental state for the next several years. He carefully produced a flexible plastic hood from his pocket and put it over his head. The material was thinner than he would have liked, he had other safety hoods with solid plastic but didn’t have the foresight to bring a sturdier one. The neck hole was large enough for some air flow. 

You watched him, openly curious. You were too focused on not touching any of his exposed skin to see how nervous he was having you so close. You were guilty that you didn’t have any better ideas, since all the other lockers were locked. The plastic looked reaper proof, which you tested by tentatively touching the mask. 

Rui was shocked when he felt pressure against his cheek and was torn between jolting away and staying perfectly still, in case sudden movement caused an accident. Everywhere except the neck opening was sealed, and you were drawn to touching him, even if you couldn’t feel his skin and hair the way you wanted. He was still worried for you, but leaned into your hand, securing the opening of his hood so it wouldn’t slide up. His eyes widened when you traced the seam of his lips. He was beyond starved for touch, dreaming day and night about being able to kiss someone again. You were willing to take the risk for him, which was terrifying. He didn’t stop you as you pressed your lips against the plastic, slowly distinguishing between his skin and the soft material. The sheet fogged as he sighed and allowed himself just a little indulgence. He sucked on your bottom lip through the plastic, and you felt the flick of his tongue brush over it before he pressed himself back against the wall, feeling an intoxicating mixture of relief and gratitude.

Lyca gritted his teeth. He hated being in a cage again. It was worse than before. He couldn’t stretch his legs and arms, the walls were crushing him, there was less air, and the only soft thing for him to rest on was you. He couldn’t do that. Your smell was too intense in that small space, overwhelming his senses. He had yet to admit how much he loved your smell, how he chased it when it was vaguely carried on the wind. Now it was too much. He couldn’t think. Why did you have to smell so good anyway? What good did it do anyone? You weren’t for eating, you weren’t supposed to attract a mate yet… Were you? 

Humans were so perplexing. He didn’t understand why there was a sweeter scent taking over the fear in you when he shifted the right way. He was about to run out of the locker, anomaly or no anomaly. Holding his breath was too uncomfortable too, and would be the last frayed nerve before he charged out against something he couldn’t fight. 

You could tell he was restless, even before he snapped at you. 

“Stop smelling like that,” he growled. You cocked your head, taking a sniff toward your jacket. You didn’t smell anything unusual. Maybe a little sweat because it was hot in there? 

“It makes me want to taste you.” 

Deciding to be as charming as his energy would allow

Edward swung the door open slowly and leaned against the frame in such a position that he looked lazily and effortlessly handsome

Of course he was done up

After all, you don't take your spouse to bed with little effort. A slightly nicer suit and a slick of one side of his hair was easy to achieve.

But you?

"Are you sure we must go out?" He smirked, finally meeting your eyeline, "I assure you that outfit would be much more fetching on my floor."

He sighed, long and triedly as if the notion of rejection has sapped the energy out of your old man

"you wound me so..." He dramatically put his hand over his heart

But seemingly was fine the moment your hand touched his.

Yes he did put as little effort into this date as possible

But his hands didn't leave you either the entire time

He's not exactly your greatest defender of anyone whistling at you, he simply just agrees with their stares. Perhaps because he's simply not worried about them should they approach.

Or because it makes them feel even more awkward when the boyfriend goes absolutely aren't they Divine?

Rui was panicking

Dates were usually so easy

Pick up your cutie, take them to a place that interests them, be genuinely interested in their hobby and learn from them about it, flirt easily throughout the date

And if you're good? Which he always is, you profit~

But now?

Now????

He couldn't even sling his arm around your shoulders with that wink as soon as your eyes met his, let alone step in a place where people MINDED THEIR SPACE!!

All he had was conversation and while he was a cunning linguist~ 🤭 it wasn't all he wanted from tonight

Worse yet, now that he's opened the door with some anomalous flowers (that are harmless) he knows you like and just the perfect amount of cologne

You've shown up here

Practically flaunting everything he can't have

The thoughts salivate in his head, but he's far too practiced to let his surprise show, instead safely giving you the flowers and telling you just how amazing you look

Like he's not thinking about it far more than he should

The yearning for touch had only been greater at your most emotionally intimate moments and now he felt like a rabid dog

"Shall we~?" He beams, pretending not to notice it too intimately

Normally he would offer you his arm but instead he holds out a scarf you've both decided is your hand holding scarf and already has it gleefully wrapped around his glove covered hands

Other than that, Rui really doesn't care what you wear, only telling a person to cool it when they say something to you and checking in after

But otherwise, a cute little picnic in the dead of night in a park looking up at the stars is still pretty romantic

Even if his lighter failed to light a candle 3 times

... He did bring an extra blanket for if you got cold tho

The scent of you is so potent that Lyca didn't even need to open the door to know who it was

He was already smiling, proud of himself for how well he fixed his hair and even got the jiggalos advice on some clothes

He didn't like any of the colognes offered to him- simply yelling YUCK and running away

He swings the door open, chest puffed and bolstered and -

... Oh.

Huh. Have you always looked like that?

"you look cold."

"... Is... That bad?"

"no. You just look like you're gonna get cold."

Lyca shrugs, deciding to show off his 'gentlemanly' skills and pulling off his sweater to put around your shoulders

See? Good boyfriends care and worry about your warmth.

"... Dooooo you like how I look?" You probe

Trying to get a compliment out of him or honestly understand how he feels

"I always like how you look," he states as if that's obvious, "'Course I like how you look now too. It's different but it's nice."

He's not stupid as to why it makes him blush or think in a strange way, but he's certainly got more manners than telling you that he likes the shape of your body and how you show it off

It's when you go out on your "very human" date that the problems unforeseen arise

Lyca doesn't appreciate the way those people are looking at you and growls beneath his breath, stepping to your side to cover you while glaring daggers at them

In the movie theatre you feel the telltale rub of Lycas nose into your neck already and actively trying to scent you because CLEARLY those people don't know what's up

Jealousy isn't new to him

But not in this context...

It feels different, but leads to him turning against others rather than you

With Ed he can simply tell him off and he'll feign wounding and move on, but these people he doesn't know.

It'll be good to talk about this tonight...
