scarecrow, tin-man, fiyero, and boq and how they hug/cuddle/show physical affection, stupidly fluffy and cute because I adore them (and I'm fully treating scarecrow/fiyero and tin-man/boq as completely different characters, different media, that stuff)
SCARECROW (Wizard of Oz)
Before he gets his brain, this man throws himself into hugs. Full force, a running start if he has the chance/room, like he's diving into it. He just gets excited, or sad, or happy, or any emotion at all leaves him wanting to get it all out.
If he's not feeling able to hold himself up, which is often as he's made of hay, he'll use his partner as a crutch. His head is almost permanently propped up by someone else's shoulder, or about as long as they allow it. Also adores holding hands, locking his arms with someone, and being a pillow. He doesn't need to sleep, and there's not much to think about without a brain, so he spends his nights admiring.
Once he does get a brain (or pins and needles, or a degree), his brain reminds him that pouncing is embarrassing, despite the fact that he wants to so badly.
His brain reminded him when he 'didn't' have one as well, but he feels more pressured to behave now that people believe him to be smart.
He sticks to hand-holding, though it has devolved into just locking little fingers so he can disengage if another surprise meeting appears. He's the current leader of the Emerald City, and he simply can't be found so emotional when he's meant to be thinking. It's only at night, when he's held down to be slept on (so he can't go shooting up when his brain explodes with a backlog of thoughts), that he goes back to himself.
He doesn't have to sleep, nobody will come in at night unless it's a true emergency, and his new brain calms as he feels their weight on him.
TIN-MAN (Wizard of Oz)
He's not used to affection; he's made of tin after all. Cold to the touch, not comfortable, and heartless.
He's a thing, not a person, designed to work.
But he really does love it when his partner reaches out first. When he does it, he's worried that he'll somehow cut them or they'll flinch away, but feeling a palm on his face, or a hand on his arm, or a leg against his, anything at all is what he adores. He memorizes it, never pulls away, but he never leans into it. He's too aware of his own sharpness, the tin, the axe, what he's known for.
But he would never pull away.
There are times, later in a relationship, when he's grown comfortable being touched, when he would initiate, though it's never just because he wants to be held or hold.
He'll rest a hand on his partner's back to lead them through a busy crowd, as gently as he possibly can. He'll always kneel to help if they've fallen, hold an arm out if they've tripped, or hug them when he's blinded by emotion. Moments that he forgets he's not warm flesh, not hot-blooded, not 'blooded' at all. Moments that he's sure make his non-existent heart pump, because he feels warm, no matter how alone or far away he is, if he focuses on the memories enough.
FIYERO (Wicked)
Not much of a hugger or one to cuddle, not in the PDA sense, but very physically affectionate.
It's mindless to him, always when he's distracted. He doesn't think about it, which is why it happens. A hand finding his partner's when he's talking to someone, or his fingers toying along their wrist when he's half-listening to a lesson he can't fully tune out (because he truly wants to tune it out), or just his leg against theirs when they're sitting eating lunch together.
If they point it out, he'll flash a grin, laugh it off, remove himself, yet the moment his thoughts stray, he'll be right back like it's a magnet.
Hugging isn't really his thing, not in public. Not because he's embarrassed, but because he likes to drape himself over people he likes, and he acts as though disengaging is the most strenuous part of his entire life. So, he just waits until he has his free time and no plans with his friends, so he can lie down, wrap his arms around them, and hold firm like the moment can be robbed from him.
He does hesitate sometimes, even when alone with them, where he worries or makes up reasons (too hot to hold hands, too much school work to relax), but then he remembers he can just ask if they'd like to be held.
That solves most of his problems.
BOQ (Wicked)
Not a hand-holder because he's constantly nervous that his hands are soaking wet with his nervous sweating, and probably the only one who would back away from any touch. He does love being held, and the rare times he's the big spoon, he's just anxious.
And believes he's not worth it.
That's only sometimes. He's not always a trembling mess, it's only 10/20% of the time when he's tired or hungry.
Most of the time, it is just hand-holding that bothers him. He loves being slept on, loves being tucked under someone's chin, loves when an arm is slung over his shoulder and he's brought close like it's just normal for him to be there.
If his partner is ever around when he's trying to sleep, it's too bad if they had plans to study or wanted to leave (he does ask, he won't just drag them away), it's time to cuddle. It's time to be completely held down by his weight, maybe watch him drool into his pillow if his partner manages to stay away while he curls like a cat.
Sighs like a neglected dog. Likes being pet like a dog too, unsurprisingly.

I want to tell y’all about the most chaotic community theater production of The Wizard of Oz I’ve ever seen
The dog playing Toto was very cute, but when it came time for him to steal the hotdog from the traveling fortune teller you could tell the hotdog had been cooled off for a while and was too tough. So for five minutes the crowd paid absolutely no attention to the lines and plot being delivered on stage and instead watched this dog chew very hard on a stale ass hotdog.
When the dog first ran out on stage he did it all on his own and went straight to Dorothy. The second time you could tell he had been nudged a little. The third time we watched him be fuckin DROPPED out onto the stage from waist height.
This was a youth production and the junior high girl playing Dorothy did not know how to properly hold the dog when skipping and singing the main theme. This poor dog had to periodically be flopped around in this girl’s arms. It got to the point where when the crowd knew the song was coming up again everyone started shifting in their seats and preemptively giggling.
The dog was obviously not trained to bark at certain lines of dialogue. So what is the theater to do? Play a recording of a dog barking? Or give a mic to child off stage to periodically bark into? I think you can guess the answer to that question.
The trees were gay. Gen Z gay to be specific. Same lines as in the movie but with Gen Z flair. When the first tree asked why Dorothy tried to take his apples and she said she was hungry he turned to the other and said “she was hungry” before popping his tongue which the other tree repeated. It nearly killed me.
When the trees are offended and throw their apples at Dorothy and Scarecrow they were mainly aiming at their backs but for some reason Dorothy decided to turn her head and was fuckin nailed in the face with a rubber apple.
When the Tin-man sings about having a heart, he grabs one of the trees hands causing the tree to break the fourth wall and look flustered out into the crowd with his mouth hanging open. Very cute.
When the guard at the gate is wishing them goodbye as they go to kill the witch he tells them good luck, the Tin-man responds that they aren’t going in unarmed while holding up his axe. Prompting the Lion to say “That’s right!” while walking out on stage holding a power drill which he is holding the trigger down on.
Oz delivers his lines with the typical fanfare up until he’s revealed to be a fraud. Then he took on an air of being slightly put out and depressed at being found out and delivers the rest of his lines with the enthusiasm and tonal range of Ferris Bueller’s history teacher.
They made the decision to have the actress playing Aunt May to also play Glinda, so when Dorothy finally wakes up and is insisting the dream was real she points to Aunt May and says “You were there too, you taught me how to use the slippers!” To which Aunt May cried tearfully “I would never use the slipper on you, you haven’t done anything wrong!” while pulling Dorothy into a smothering hug.

i genuinely cant tell if I like tincrow/fiyerboq/foq for the sheer gloriousness of their ship or if I'm just in love with fiyero and projecting onto boq because 1) broke 2) terrible amazing sense in sweater fashion 3) having 0 way to articulate true emotions and just totally fumbling a relationship out of guilt and not wanting to hurt the other person once its in too deep and 4) the trans-ification of being turned into a Monster TM and being pissed about being in the wrong body through no fault of your own

SCARECROW (Wizard of Oz)
Doesn't know how to hide his feelings, and he wouldn't want to. He's a gentleman, polite as can be, and doesn't wish to make the person he likes uncomfortable, he's just a yearner.
The type to lovingly sigh.
Looks sort of like a dog when the person he likes enters the room/his proximity, just perks up. Unusually quiet when they're near, which is odd because he loves to yap, but he's trying to absorb as many of their words as possible! 'No brain' makes it harder, so he has to dedicate as much power as possible to it.
Not very good at that, but still.
When talking, every single sentence leads back to the person he likes, and it'll 100% be a stretch every time. Apples? You know something about apples, they're red sometimes! And you know something about red? Hearts are red too - and wouldn't you believe it, hearts are a symbol of love! You know what-
It could keep going for hours.
After, when he has more sense to go with his brains, he's a bit more reserved, but the smile sticks to his face. It's always on his mind. If he's looking out the window with a happy expression, just completely gone, it's 8/10 times him thinking about the person he likes. Would abuse his position of power as the new leader of the Emerald City </3 just give them a job they don't really deserve so that they're not persuaded to leave the city.
TIN-MAN (Wizard of Oz)
In shock that he could have feelings for anyone (if it's before he gets a 'heart'), so he mostly brushes it off as anything else - fear, hatred, a general annoyance that makes his tin torso warm? Doesn't want to feel hatred, or fear, or annoyance toward somebody close to him, so he goes out of his way to get closer to them, speak more.
Makes everything worse this way, but just keeps making it worse by wanting to speak to them more to try and move on from his 'hatred', unaware he's falling more and more in love.
It moves on to maintenance, perhaps it's a fault within himself!
He oils himself better before and after meeting with them, then he's sitting in the dark in confusion because it still doesn't feel better. He polishes himself to a shine, and then does it all over again next time because he still doesn't feel right. When a noise echoes deep inside his chest while speaking to them, he's sure something has only come loose, that it's his problem, but he can't excuse himself from the conversation to check... why? Well, if he leaves, then he hates them, and that's what he's trying to overcome.
If he actually thinks about it, even when he's without the heart (or clock, or hole in his chest with a silk bag of sawdust), he'll realize that somehow, someway, he's in love. He'll likely realize it not too long after his feelings first form, and he's overjoyed that his ticker works!
He's simple, to the point, and he's a gifter. Random things as well, just because they even slightly remind him of the person he likes, or he thinks they'll like it.
