De “Naked Nuc” naam komt van het feit dat Tim Warning zijn Intel Nuc uitgekleed heeft en open en bloot in zijn custom Mod laat zien. De nieuwe behuizing die hij gecreëerd heeft voor deze Intel Nuc lijkt van een afstandje op een ijsklontje, deze illusie word gecreëerd doordat de behuizing gemaakt is van 3 lagen acryl en direct dienst doen als routingplates voor de watercoolings loop. Deze “Naked Nuc” is watergekoeld door een loop bestaande uit 1x 120mm radiator en fan, de loop loopt… Overal!!

De fan is nagenoeg niet te zien gezien deze aan de onderkant van de radiator is bevestigd welke als een soort standaard voor de Nuc zelf dient. De bovenste plaat van de behuizing is voorzien van een transparant Intel logo, en doet klaarblijkelijk direct dienst als reservoir voor de watercooling. De zijdes zijn voorzien van leidingen waardoor de koelvloeistof rondgepompt word en bieden een open zicht op de Intel Nuc zelf. Aan weerszijden van de radiator zijn 2 kleine pompen aangebracht om deze beide zijdes hetzelfde uiterlijk te geven. Deze zijdes lijken open te zijn gebleven om toegang te geven aan de aansluitingen van de Nuc.

De blauw gekleurde koelvloeistof geeft deze “Naked Nuc” een ijskoud uiterlijk dat zeer zeker niet slecht is. Doordat Tim enkel daglicht foto’s geplaatst heeft ging ik ervan uit dat er geen Led’s enzo in geplaatst waren, maar om dit zeker te weten heb ik het even gevraagd aan Tim zelf :)

Ja klopt, hij is helemaal naakt, je kan alles zien, niets extra’s.

Hoewel deze “Naked Nuc” qua uiterlijke vorm lijkt op de Hypercube van Mike Petereyns zijn deze beide Versies toch extreem anders in stijl, opbouw en techniek. Ik ben nog nooit zo blij geweest dat ik geen jury lid ben als bij deze competitie.. Tot nu toe hebben Peter, Mike en Tim alledrie een zeer mooi resultaat op geleverd en dan zijn er nog 2 die er ook al prachtig uit beginnen te zien.

It was an honour to participate :D Next to this I want to thank Django Soeterboek for (like always) helping me out with drawing the technical drawings that can be used for lasercutting.[:en]It’s been about a month since i wrote about Peter Brands his “L3P-Nuc” and Mike Petereyns his “Hypercube“, now it’s finally time that i can also write about Tim Warning’s “Naked Nuc”! After having written about the previous Custom Nuc’s it seem to have taken an eternity before the others of the 5 invited Modders would announce completed Nuc’s. Tim Warning really makes it worth the wait!

The “Naked Nuc” gets it’s name from the fact that Tim Warning totally undressed his Intel Nuc and lets everything out in the open in his new custom Mod. The new case he created for this Intel Nuc looks like an icecube from afar, this illusion is created because the Case is built up out of 3 layers of Acrylic and directly functions as routingplates for the watercooling loop. This “Naked Nuc” is watercooled by a loop existing of 1x 120mm radiator and fan, the loop is routed… Everywhere!!

You can hardly see the fan because this is mounted to the bottomside of the radiator which functions as a sorts of pedestal for the Intel Nuc itself. The top plate of the casing shows a transparent Intel logo, and at the same time seemingly functions as the reservoir for the watercooling. The sides house conduits trough which the cooling liquid is pumped and give a clear open view onto the Intel Nuc. On either side of the radiator a small pump is mounted to give these both sides a similar appearance. These sides seem to be kept open to give access to the connections on the Nuc.

The blue colored cooling liquid gives this “Naked Nuc” an Icey cold look which certainly isn’t a bad look at all. Because Tim only posted daylight photo’s i assumed he didn’t place any type of led or other lighting in the case, but to be sure i simply asked Tim himself :)

Correct, It’s entirely naked, you can see it all, nothing extra.

Eventhough this “Naked Nuc” seems to have the same outer look as Mike Peteryns’ Hypercube, these two Mods are extremely different in style, build and technique. I’ve never been so happy to not be a judge as i am for this competition.. So far Peter, Mike and Tim all put forth an amazing result and there are still 2 to come which are already looking beautiful.
