Tien Liyuan or Tien Ma was born in Taiwan in 1932 and grew up helping her mother make meals for her younger siblings. As a young adult, she developed an amazing Xiang Long Bao recipe while working at a cafeteria of a local high school. She then opened Xiao Long Bao stalls in the night markets of Taipei.
