Tis I! The nervous mutual once again, I hope I am not bothering you with my incessant asks. I've got a question that google Can't answer this time though!! Wowza! [Thank you for being so patient with me though :)] How much does Tic, tic? You've mentioned a range of severity, but where on this scale does Tic himself land on? [I may or may not be planning some fanart and wanna know. but shhh-!]
Dw you're not bothering me at all, I love answering these asks! :D
And oh boy. (Info dumb under read more. Got kinda carried away lol.)
there's nothing like suppressing your tics for awhile and then when you finally let yourself tic you can't stop
painfully accurate :/
so in the past ive mentioned that i subconsciously suppress my tics, and ive finally found a way to help myself with that, and i thought i'd share it in case it helps anyone else.
basically, i go to the store or to the mall or a resturant a couple times a week. i don't buy anything, i just walk around with my mom. i focus on not suppressing my tics (and sometimes i have to force them out if it's a rough day). it gets me used to ticcing in public and helps me gain confidence and see that not everyone is going to be upset at me for ticcing. it's been working really well!
it started out with me like 70% suppressing, and in about a month i'm down to about 30-40%, which i think is really good.
of course, you do have to have the confidence to try this and have parents/siblings/anyone who can go to the store with you know about your tics, which are some setbacks for some people. but if you have those things, and you struggle with suppression, i'd say give it a try!
any advice/tips?
so, i almost always have friends over on the weekends, and it's really fun to hang out with them. but every time, i can't fully enjoy it because im so focused on suppressing my tics. i've tried to not suppress but it's so hard when i really don't want the attention, and i just don't know what to do.
it's been nearly three years since i was diagnosed and four since my tics started, and i still can't seem to unlearn suppression. i find it easier to not suppress when im around a lot of people rather than alone with one or two people. when im in a room full of people, the attention isn't all on me, they're all focused on everyone else. but when it's just me and a few other people, there's so much focus on me, so they'll notice every little tic and i don't like that.
so, ive asked before but im asking again because im desperate, does anyone have any tips? ive heard the "just stop suppressing" and the things along those lines before and it hasn't helped me, so please try to avoid saying things like that.
thank you for reading, and ill keep you guys updated on my journey to not suppress anymore
