look, mum, I’m painting my nails, I’m hiding grey hairs on my head with a dye, yes, mum, I know bright red is not something you’d pick for my thirty-six but look here, I’m finally getting too thin, I’m applying three different things to my skin and growing to love the idea of makeup . yes, mum, I know, bright blue lipstick is not what you’d pick for me either, but listen - I bought me a dress I look good in, have I told you I’m getting too thin and beginning to look good in dresses . no, mum, it’s not to impress and I don’t need a man, mum, please, can you listen I’m feeling a lot more like me, like I’m a real girl, finally, isn’t it awesome . mum look here look at this smile and this twirl, yes, I know that my walk needs a little more sway but oh what do you say can I go now can I please go out and play?
