#thyholm

Today I hiked from Ydby down to Helligsø Drag, then along the beach of Nissum Bredning for about 10 km, and then on to Hvidberg, from where I took the bus back to Ydby (total distance hiked was 20 km). Found some good flint fossils, mostly sea urchins and one that looks like an oyster.

Spent some time at Helligsø Drag beach today, swimming and writing fanfic. Then I walked to Lyngs (where they have an old mill and a curiously decorated window, but not much else) and took a bus to Hurup to buy supper. Apart from potatoes and the egg sold by local farmers, there are no places to get anything to eat between Hurup and Hvidbjerg, unless one is lucky and finds some edible mushrooms. Treated myself to a frog cake.

Today’s hike went from Hvidbjerg down to the beach, and then along it to Oddesund Bridge. Found more fossils, one still embedded in chalk. Another was guarded by a fierce crab. I managed to mollify it with some food and snatched the urchin from under its menacing claws.

Haul of fossil sea urchins after five days of walking beaches on Thyholm and in Thy. They're also called "Shepherd's Crowns" or thunderstones, because in folklore they are associated with Thor.
