#gofree is an absurd ass slogan regardless of who wears it but with pecco bagnaia it's like. it's almost artistic in its dissonance. it creates the kind of true pathetic emotional response in me that greek theater is supposed to create. one has to assume it's there aspirationally -- he is trying to motivate himself to go free -- but all it does is underscore the extent to which he is still hemmed in by his own careful deliberateness (his need for the right sized fuel tank in sprint races, his delineation of people's last names in his instagram debriefs, his painfully steady progress through a weekend) in a way that makes me want to cry. and when he does go free it's usually onto the gravel... yes he won championships but clearly they did not 'free' him... the slogan is still there exhorting him towards something more?? we don't even know what??? is freedom beating marc marquez on the same machinery and escaping the legacy you've been laboring under your entire career? because baby...
