I'm supposed to be working on my fanfest entry but this was so close to being done and my friend finishing DELTARUNE for the first time pushed me to it.

I'd like to make cards for this series based on the meanings rather than the surface vibes people usually go for and this one was the only one I felt comfortable doing before the full game is out. Doubt there will be anyone better fitting for it.

Things are getting kinda... weird.....

I always did wonder why the hell Spamton had such a powerful and forsaken weapon like that in the first place, clearly waiting for years for the right time to find us as the Soul to sell it to. And it’s such a tragic theory

Desperate, lonely little man who has never had control over anything in his life or been good enough for anybody and who knows he’s doomed by the narrative, experiences his first moment of true hope and connection with someone else and decides to put everything on the line to trust him. He buys a ring to commemorate their commitment to each other and staying together to face whatever consequences may come next. He knows it’s going to be bad but his partner says whatever it is, he won’t be alone for it. He’s been alone his entire life. He wants to not be alone anymore so bad that he wants a physical symbol of their relationship to offer Tenna as he also offers himself and his heart, trusting it will be received and handled with care

And then everything falls apart and his heart falls right out of the hands he gave it to and shatters all over the floor. He feels completely betrayed and used and thrown away and abandoned. He let himself be vulnerable and now the pain and loneliness are back a million times worse than ever and he’s broken and homeless and disgraced by everyone he ever knew or who claimed to care about him

He spends so many years rotting away with nothing but literal garbage to keep him company, and his own angry heartbroken thoughts. Talking to himself at the bottom of a dumpster, pain and hatred festering into nonstop intrusive thoughts about killing everyone who he once trusted and who he wanted so badly for them to care about him. He still cries at night for someone to help him

But nobody came.

And after years and years and years and years, the ring he still holds onto seems to be changing somehow.

Its edges are sharp now. It feels cold. Just like he had to become, isolated and suffering with nothing but dark and violent thoughts to soothe him

This symbol of trust has turned into a weapon.

And he can use it now. To inflict the pain he’s had to endure onto someone else. Perpetuating his own cycle of abuse. Passing along some of his own agony to another helpless puppet this time.
