I’ve spent the past 4-5 weeks working on a HIIT program, and man, I’ve loved it! Gradually increasing the intensity each week, and adding in weights, I’ve seen myself grow and get stronger as the weeks have gone by. I’m going to have a week off HIIT, but then I’m getting straight back on it! Kind of like a mini deload as I will still be running and gym training, just lowering the intensity of having other workouts scheduled.
This morning was my last session of the program, but I was aware I also needed to fit some sprint training into my week, so I decided to do it all at once! The session was 3 blocks of 4 exercises, each done twice. So after each block I went outside and hit 2 x 100m sprints. Then after that I had my 30s rest before hitting the next block. It made the workout even more intense, but I enjoyed it so much! It added another level into the training, and I was really pushing my limits. It’s not something to do every time, but I will definitely mix that up again.
Looking ahead, I have decided against doing another half marathon this autumn, and instead I am sticking to 10k’s and working on my speed. My PT is fully on board and we are starting to hit some more power and strength work from this week. The past few months of gym training have been a bit hit and miss with one thing and another, but now we are back on track and going for it! Can’t wait!
My other nemesis (as always) is my food! It took me about a month to get it back on point after my holiday, I was on point for about 2 weeks, and then its started slipping again. The thing is, that even as I eat crap I don't really want it. I’m just eating it because it is there. And normally thats when I’m at work. So I’m going to be really strict with myself and stop doing it. I don't want it, or need it, so why eat it?! I’ve actually put more weight back on, and I know thats through me not concentrating and not being disciplined. I know I can do it, and when I am fully on point I feel fantastic. I don't feel like I’m missing out on anything, and I don't seriously crave the bad food. It’s just too easy to eat it when it’s sat in front of you. Time to crack the discipline and GET. BACK. ON. IT!
