7/4/2019: it's been 5 days in my field site and honestly? It's been...rough. I arrived in a week where the government came to dispense social security payments and also a medical team is here vaccinating children so there's people everywhere from various communities, general chaos, and no one is home.
I've yet to make a recording because meeting people is hard, and the one time I tried the guy asked an exorbitant fee so i put him off. I have managed to meet some people and promised to visit 2 communities next week so now i need to...do that. I also met the leader here in La leona and he told me (i think) that tomorrow he can call a woman to take me to someone who speaks angaité well so hopefully that will pan out.
I've spent the last 5 days in existential crisis about how I'm supposed to do a MA report/QP based off the data i'm able to collect in this very short time, and how much is normal "slow going" that my advisor warned me about vs. "slow going" that I should be worried about as a sign of incompetence. Yesterday I did manage to brainstorm a list of project ideas and the data I would need to carry them out so now I just need to find some people to tell me some stories (and transcribe and translate them) and translate some words/sentences. Nbd.
Also, it's been cold rainy, and I caught "la gripe" three days ago (NOT the flu, as I learned in spanish class, but just a regular cold, here in Paraguay), and neither of those things have helped troop morale.
