Simple.

The introduction scene was done in the main character’s voice--Deathstroke’s voice.

Batman and co. did not need to introduce Robin.

I’ve brought up an E-rated Hades & Persephone inspired fan fic I’ve been plotting, and a lot of people are interested in the specific kinks and fluff I’m including.

I’ve been thinking about it, and the setting etc is actually so general fantasy in the current form that I can very easily shave off the remaining ties to the original property while keeping everything important (including the main characters, as they required minor personality changes to begin with to justify the beginning of the plot).

So, what do you guys think? Should I leave it as a fan fic, which will increase the initial available audience (i.e. AO3 trawlers), and allow me to skimp on some background details and characters because the reader can fill in from the main property.

Or commit, and do a bit more world building and character work (including designing a physical appearance for the demon!Hades character, since I’d want that to be the most original). This will narrow down my initial audience to you guys and reblogs on Tumblr, but would allow me the opportunity to openly publish down the road and broaden the eventual audience.

I’d also be deleting any posts referring to the original property in connection to this fic, and politely ask others to remove reference to the connection in their own reblogs.

Just read something by somebody I know and like who referred to SNL's recent search for a Black female cast member as a result of "bullying." He was thoughtful and serious about it. I took a bit to really think about that characterization.

Look....feedback is not bullying.

If you cook and sell soup, and you don't add salt, and your regulars who come back week after week say "Come ON man, how are you not including salt? It's a fundamental building block of flavor. It's really noticeable that you're leaving it out." And then finally, FINALLY, you include salt.....you weren't bullied. You were just real slow to listen and figure out you were leaving out a crucial ingredient.

When you're a national institution that's famous for political cold opens and we spend 6 years with a First Lady who is Black and you don't have a Black lady on staff to play her?

YOU LEFT OUT THE SALT. WHY IS THIS SOUP SO BLAND?! AND NO YOU CAN'T JUST USE SUGAR IN A DRESS.

It's just not bullying....it's valuable feedback that makes your work 1000x better. And frankly, if you really consider yourself a master chef, no one should need to tell you that you should have had salt in your freakin' recipe from the beginning.
