Youâd always known that Fred Weasley had a way of drawing attention.
It wasnât just his laugh, though, that alone could make half the Great Hall turn. It wasnât just his mischief, or his confidence, or the way he carried himself like the whole world was in on a joke only he understood.
No, what made Fred impossible to ignore was how he looked at people.
Like he actually saw them.
And that was exactly the problem.
Because lately, youâd caught him looking at you.
Not in the casual, playful way he looked at everyone else, but in a quiet, focused way that made you feel seen down to the bone. And every time it happened, your chest tightened with something you couldnât name.
But you had a boyfriend.
And Fred Weasley wasnât yours to think about.
The argument started on a Friday afternoon, the kind of day where classes blurred together, and tempers ran short. You were walking through the courtyard, your boyfriendâs arm slung lazily over your shoulders. He was talking about Quidditch practice, or himself, or both; you werenât sure. You were too busy pretending to listen when Fred appeared ahead, his grin wide and effortless as ever.
âAfternoon, love,â he called.
Your boyfriend stiffened immediately. âDonât call her that,â he said.
Fred raised an eyebrow, but the grin didnât waver. âItâs a word, mate. Not a marriage proposal.â
âStill,â your boyfriend said sharply. âSheâs with me.â
âRight,â Fred said, crossing his arms. âAnd sheâs also capable of speaking for herself, I assume?â
You opened your mouth to diffuse, to joke, to something â but your boyfriend stepped forward before you could.
âGo fuck yourself, man,â he spat. âYou think youâre better than me, donât you?â
The courtyard went silent.
Fred didnât flinch. His grin faded, replaced by something colder, not cruel, but measured. His eyes, usually full of laughter, sharpened with a kind of quiet fury.
âI am better than you,â Fred said, voice calm, steady. âBecause Iâd never talk to her the way you do.â
Your stomach dropped. âFred-â
But he wasnât finished.
âYou treat her like sheâs a trophy you get to hold up,â he said, each word deliberate. âLike sheâs something you get points for keeping. But sheâs not something to keep. Sheâs someone to see. And you donât.â
Your boyfriendâs face turned scarlet. âYou donât know what youâre talking about.â
Fredâs voice softened, but somehow, that only made it hit harder. âI know enough.â
He looked at you, then really looked, and in his eyes, there wasnât smugness or victory. Just quiet honesty. The kind that leaves nowhere to hide.
Then he turned, walked away, and didnât look back.
That night, you couldnât sleep.
You replayed the moment again and again, your boyfriendâs anger, Fredâs voice, the way your heart had twisted when he said I am better than you.
Because it wasnât arrogance. It was conviction.
And the truth you didnât want to admit?
Youâd believed him.
When you broke things off with your boyfriend later that evening, it wasnât dramatic. No shouting, no tears, just quiet realization. You were tired of feeling small next to someone who never tried to understand you.
You didnât go looking for Fred. But somehow, your feet led you toward him anyway.
You found him in the back room of the twinsâ workshop, half-finished prototypes scattered across the table, the faint scent of smoke and sugar in the air. He was hunched over a glowing vial, muttering to himself.
He didnât look up when you entered. âIf this one explodes, youâre cleaning the ceiling.â
You smiled softly. âYou always assume the worst.â
Fred froze. His head snapped up, and the teasing comment died on his lips. âYou came.â
You shrugged, trying to sound casual even as your heart thudded in your chest. âYou said enough for both of us earlier.â
He set the vial down. âI didnât mean to start a fight.â
âYes, you did,â you said quietly. âYou just didnât mean to be right.â
He blinked, taken aback. âYou-what?â
âI ended things,â you said simply.
Fred stared, and for once, he had no quick remark, no witty comeback. Just silence.
Then, slowly, he asked, âBecause of what I said?â
âBecause of what you made me see,â you corrected. âYou were right. He didnât see me. Not really.â
Fred exhaled a shaky sound that almost made you laugh. âI didnât say it to get you to leave him.â
âI know.â You took a step closer. âYou said it because you meant it.â
For a moment, all you heard was the faint ticking of some enchanted contraption behind him. The room smelled like fireworks and dust and everything that was distinctly Fred.
He rubbed the back of his neck. âYou know, for someone who runs a shop full of pranks, Iâm not very good at being serious.â
âYou were serious enough today,â you said.
He looked at you then, that half-smile returning softer, this time. âI didnât like seeing someone treat you like that.â
You tilted your head. âAnd how would you treat me, Fred Weasley?â
His grin returned in full, though it didnât hide the sincerity in his eyes. âLike youâre the best kind of chaos Iâve ever met.â
You laughed quietly, but it filled the room all the same.
He took a step closer, then another, until there was barely a breath between you. âCan I tell you something?â he murmured.
You nodded.
âI never thought Iâd like someone who could outsmart me,â he said, âbut I do.â
Your pulse skipped. âAnd what makes you think youâve managed to impress me, Weasley?â
He leaned in, voice low, teasing. âBecause youâre still here.â
You smiled the kind of smile that came from your chest instead of your lips and whispered, âMaybe I like the competition.â
Fred grinned. âGood. Because I plan on winning.â
And when he kissed you, soft, tentative, and real, it didnât feel like a victory.
It felt like finally being seen.

I love him, Your Honor.
Watching Transformers Prime Season 1 Episode 3 "Darkness Rising Part 3"
nice view :)
Genuinely cute opening scene of all the human sidekicks palling around with the bots.
Though Ratchet deals with the possessed scalpel disappointingly easily. I wanted that to be a bit harder, NGL
Megsy's ok I guess? Aaaand the second he leaves Screamer's all "Megatron has gone insane, I Starscream should now be in charge!"
Love the "Teacher Pet and Rebel" dynamic Soundwave and Screamer have in this show. SW's all like "But dad said not to" Screamer's like "What he don't know won't kill him"
We then get a very funny set of descending "You're in charge nows" with each participant hoping out and putting someone else in charge.
The kids in this show are genuinely quite likable? And useful too. I hope Miko running off into danger she can't handle isn't gonna be too regular a thing (monkey's paw curls)
Very human heavy episode this one. Could've used more cybertronians.
Fowler gets an upskirt shot of Screamer's legs and ass, for which I am very jealous of him. Anyway Screamer pokes him a bit.
Aaand the humans all end up trying to save Fowler. You know you're in trouble when three teenagers apparently need to save you.
Megsy and OP finally reunite! And immediately there's that chemistry. OP: "I know you're raising the dead" Megsy aw you know me so well babe. OP Well I should it's what our '5 millionth anniversary? Megsy: 5 millionth, that's 'zombie death army' right?
