No one knows how soulmates began, if they were one soul that split in two or if they all came from the one source, but everyone knows that everyone has a soulmate. Before finding their soulmate, one has a distinct emptiness within them. Once one finds their soulmate, they’re bound together for the rest of their lives, and every life to come. Each time they’re born anew, there’s a pull within them that brings them back to their soulmate, wherever they are. They might not remember much, but they remember flashes of their lives together, the colour of their soulmate’s eyes, the softness of their hair through their fingers, etc. Once you find your soulmate, you’re bound together for eternity.

Harry hasn’t found his soulmate. Everyone knows that the way to seal the bond is through sex, but Harry isn’t the sort to go to one of those Unbound clubs and sleep his way through the populous. Unlike other Unbound, he remembers flashes of past lives, but he doesn’t remember a lover, he remembers his killer.

Tom doesn’t remember a lover either, but he does remember flashes of heartbreak, which is what has turned him into the cold, driven Dark Lord that he is.
