In the 1960s, when you wanted to entertain the kiddos over the holiday weekend you’d pull out this book, Things to Make and Do. Published in 1967 and packed full of retro charm, this colorful craft book brought an extra helping of imagination to the Thanksgiving table. 🦃 Containing over 185 pages of projects that run the gamut from backyard nature activities to indoor art tutorials, it was geared towards the kindergarten to middle school crowd, but really could have just been a fun escape for any age. Requiring only simple materials and around-the-house-and -yard bits and pieces, it featured together projects, solo projects, indoor projects and outdoor projects - something to suit all the budding artists in the family. 🎨 And funny enough, many projects involved corks... which meant a cocktail for the adults and a craft project for the kids. 🍷 Something fun for everyone indeed! Included here are some of the holiday themed projects and activities highlighting homemade ornaments, a Thanksgiving light up show, stencils made from nature, window Santas, paper Christmas trees, a cork parade, Turkey gourds, and colorful holiday tapestries made with crayon. Offering such a sweet view of the world, even though this book is over 60 years old it offers a refreshing perspective on the sheer, uncomplicated innocence of imagination. This year, the pandemic dictates so much of who and when and where and with whom we celebrate the holidays. But quarantine or not, the artistic spirit knows no boundaries!
