Things that Perform: Process
Hello!
This is the process for the “Things that Perform Project.”
While I was originally aiming for a full on body suit, that would cover the entirety of my body, I was satisfied with the poetic remnants of Orgain containers littered throughout the surface of my body.
This whole building process proved to be extremely difficult, as I kept changing the ways that I connected the containers, and found it extremely difficult to have them conform to a human body.
Really interesting material to work with, especially with the subject matter and goal, which had to evolve as I evolved with the material.
THINGS THAT PERFORM: Process
The prompt was to use several things that are considered trash to create something that I could wear. I have experience making full body costumes from previous halloweens. I am also a bit of a hoarder, and there is a lot of "trash" in my room that I am too found of to get rid of it. I used all of these things for the costume, from old fabric to old yellowing foam, I carved it to make a head of a teddy bear and used old magazines, crumbled and ripped pages to then glue them to create something resembling fur.
THINGS THAT PERFORM: PROCESS
These are the process shots taken for the Things That Perform assignment. For this project, I had the idea of creating a full-body suit made of trash bags, which would then be covered entirely in newspapers. There are many challenges that come with putting this suit together, as I did most of this all on my own. The first two photos are from the very earliest phases of the assignment, where I believed that the assignment would be best if done simpler without any newspapers. In hindsight, that was a pretty bad idea. The last three photos are the process shots for the second phase, where I attach newspaper scraps to virtually every corner of the suit.
