This is the final group presentation for the phrase we arranged into “Let me live my life from day to day”. We wanted to make a commentary about the expectations placed individuals. People want to live the way they wish, without interference. With our work we hope to emphasize on the repetitive expectations that are placed on all of us, while highlighting the stress that comes with it. We illustrated the monotony of everyday life by taking photos of our own daily routines.

Process of making a sculpture that can also act as a prop. I compiled all my trash and made the prop in a way I can go inside and walk around.

Making a base for the recreation of the objects (leaves and bark) from the park. I chose to do a white, medium sized pedestal so the recreated objects can be seen easily and won’t distract from the work.

This is the product after the sketches. I chose option 3 from the sketches so the location I went to was a park and the object from the site I changed to leaves since the different hues of the leaves throughout the park interested me. 

Sketches of three locations and the act of using an object to make a drawing on site. The first location I thought of going to an abandoned area called “Crandon Park Zoo” and finding material that is there such as wood scraps that would most likely be there to make an image. I would have drilled the wood onto the wall. The second location was a strawberry field and I wanted to pick out the rotten strawberries and make an image using the juice onto a canvas. The third location was a playground or park and I would make an image using the woodchips. (I ended up sticking to option three)

Putting a Ferrero Roche chocolate on a kitchen rag as a base makes it look “less important”. It is half-hidden so the object can’t be seen from all sides, the focus is taken from the chocolate to the pattern of the rag, and the dirtiness of the rag makes the viewer not want to consume it. However, once the object is placed on the plate shown as a base, the object becomes “more important”. This plate is a uniform black color, which makes the glossy shine come forward when light hits it. It makes the gold of the Ferrero Roche pop almost like it is a prized object. It works in favor of the object rather than work against it because of this. All sides of the object can be seen and is circulated by the interesting shape of the plate. The chocolate looks as if it was one of the most expensive and rare one you could have.

Time is tickin, what have YOU done with it?

I submerged my body within old calendars that I have collected over the course of around 5 years that have accumulated in my room and attached a clock on the top. I wanted to emphasize the theme of time and how much of it quickly goes, the constraints and pressures of it. I also included an invitation to my audience by including an old agenda with a pen to actively engage people to think about their own actions in their everyday life. I chose to perform my peice in front of a hospital to further illustrate the ticking of time and how much of it slips by in our everyday life. As can be seen from the videos, time follows you where you go.

I chose the verb “to store” and decided to make a frame with the intention of quite literally storing a body, in this case, myself. I made the dimensions to perfectly fit my body, therefore, it is an intimate peice. I wanted to concentrate on the naturalness of the material itself, the organic nature of the wood. Therefore, the coffin is shown to be decaying back into its original, natural state...back to the original wood. The theme of death, decay, and growth is additionally shown by the paint that was purposefully done in a way the original wood is “growing” back out. Additional materials used was cardboard, twigs, and moss to further work with the idea of naturalism, deriving similarly from the same source of the wood. It can also be seen just as the wood clearly shows its story of decay and its revival, the cardboard also speaks for itself with the “U-Haul” logo ironically on it. This piece was versatile, it can be framed both standing up or on the floor as shown.
