Freezing does not create thiaminase.
This is an old wives’ tale which I have seen circulating on tumblr. Either a fish, plant, or bacteria has this enzyme or it does not.Â
Thiaminase is an enzyme which destroys thiamin (vitamin B1), a vital nutrient, leading to thiamin deficiency in our pets.
Freezing vegetables (or fish) and feeding them later will not create this enzyme and does not destroy their nutritional profile if frozen fresh.
It is safe to feed frozen-thawed food to your fish or reptile.
It is not safe to feed a diet of foods already rich in thiaminase to your fish or reptile.
