#they cry

“Time to die”

Lime stood before an alien, they pointed their holy water gun at it, ready to shoot, but it did no use. The next thing they saw was a tentacle shooting towards them, right in the face. Immediately, pain rushed to their visor as they felt blood pour out. Still, they needed to fight. They reached up to grab the fleshy tentacle and pull it out, they caught their breath before it stabbed them again, harder this time. Their body was crying out in pain as more tentacles began to stab them everywhere, they felt themself lift of the ground.

They couldn’t believe it.

This was it.

They’d failed. They’d failed to protect everyone

Blue was dead, and it was all their fault.

They couldn’t breathe as they felt the stabbing go deeper and deeper into their body. their vision had become blurry, the last thing they heard was the comforting hum of the reactor, before losing all senses.

When Lime woke up they were still in the reactor room, they were no longer in any pain, they just felt cold and numb. They looked around and saw Green cleaning something up. 

Their body.

Lime shuddered as they saw the intern pick up the bloody pieces of their remains.

They stood up, feeling light and wobbly. 

They were dead.

They saw Blue, not Blue, a different version. This one that they were looking at was almost see-through, and crying.

“LIME!!” They felt a heavy force run into them as they realised it was Blue. Blue had hugged them. “You were right, I knew you were right! Those scans didn’t have bones. No one believed you, I did but it was too late..” Blue looked up at Lime, visor glassy from their tears. 

Lime fought back tears, they were the reason Blue was dead. They left them in med bay. They killed them.

Blue hugged Lime tighter, “Are you okay? You don’t look like you’re doing well.”

Lime pushed Blue off of them and floated over to sit by the reactor, leaning their head against it while it glowed. They felt not only guilty, but angry. If they would’ve fought, they’d be alive. Then everyone would know the truth. 

They felt Blue sit down next to them, providing them warmth. Lime turned away to look at the reactor, they couldn’t look at Blue right now.

“You don’t want to talk?” Blue asked gently. Lime shook their head. 

Blue leaned against Lime, “that’s okay, it took me a while after I died too.” 

Lime didn’t respond.

“I saw you. I watched you find me.” Blue whispered, “I’m sorry you had to be the one to find me.  You were the only one that could. I can’t imagine how anyone else would’ve reacted.” 

Lime shuddered as they tried to forget, but how could they? Seeing Blue without a face like that..it was horrid. They let a tear fall from their visor. They finally spoke up, voice faltering as they did so, “I shouldn’t have left ya in there..”

“Lime you didn’t know-“

“I coulda protected you.”

Blue sighed, “you couldn’t even do it yourself, Lime.”

They turned over to look at Blue, “what’s that supposed to-“

They cut them off, “I would rather watched you die like this than you do it right in front of me. Even though…I watched you die as a ghost..I don’t think I’d be able to watch that when I was alive. I wouldn’t be able to take it, knowing that you were gone.”

“How do you think I felt?” Lime murmured angrily.

The two sat in silence, letting their words linger in the air until Lime spoke up again, “I’m sorry for letting you die.” They look away from Blue, but it was obvious they were crying. 

“No…no, Lime…you didn’t..it’s not your fault” Blue tried comforting them.

“I could’ve…I-“ Lime’s breath hitches as they cry. Blue scoots closer, rubbing their back to comfort them. “It’s not your fault, okay?” 

“Im sorry…” Lime whispers under their breath, as if saying it over and over would somehow put things back to the way they were. 

But it wouldn’t.
